Synopsis

Gary Bouton has made Inside Photoshop CS a perennial best-seller due to the loyalty of his audience. A lot of people simply love the way Gary explains what Photoshop is all about. In this revised edition, Gary truly puts the outsider "inside", demystifying such intangibles as pixels, color wheel, resolution, line screens, and more of vital information for the hobbyists and professional. He covers all the new features and adds expert tips and tricks for the digital photographer. Critics and readers alike have noted that Bouton's writing style makes difficult, technical topics easy to understand -- as if they were being guided by a close friend or mentor.

Mr. Bouton has authored 14 books on Photoshop; several other books on the Internet, CorelDRAW, and modeling applications; and some freelance columns relating to computer graphics for photography and digital art publications. Gary holds four international awards in DTP and graphics. Besides satisfying the needs of numerous commercial clients by designing brochures, newspaper and magazine ads, and a variety of other graphics, Mara also spends part of her schedule supplying people in her area with computer training and technical support for software and troubleshooting issues. Mara also occasionally donates her time to a local school by designing T-shirts and offering consultation on image-related areas. This is Mara's third time as a contributing author and technical editor for the Inside Photoshop series. Gary Kubicek has been a contributing author for 8 books on Photoshop; he has also been a technical editor for 12 books. A professional photographer for more than 20 years, Gary was an early adopter of Photoshop and the "digital darkroom" as an extension of the self-expression he finds in his traditional photographic work. Gary is also a digital imaging consultant. And when he's not pushing pixels, he is playing his Strat and trying to learn how to play some of his favorite Stevie Ray Vaughan tunes. Gary can be reached at gary@garykubicek.com. His Web site address is http://www.garykubicek.com. Dave Huss has authored 15 books on all aspects of digital imagery that have been translated into six languages. A popular conference speaker, Dave has taught classes throughout the U.S. and Europe. 5.0 von 5 Sternen For Those Who Learn By Doing 26. August 2004
Von Welles - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
Gary's has written a text which is an educational experience based on doing. This doesn't mean that the theoretical basis of image manipulation is shorted but rather that it is offered during practical lessons so the intellectual component has a contextual grounding. "Inside Photoshop CS" takes one through a course which touches and applies vitrually aspect of the most complex and popular software programs in the world including all the new and upgraded tools. While I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for an absolute beginner, if someone is self-motivated and serious about studying Photoshop CS with the goal of progressing toward expertise, working through this one book would be more valuable than several semesters of college classes. Cheaper too!

This will be my only Photoshop CS book purchase.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Steps don't work! 3. Juli 2004
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
I have another book by Gary Bouton and it is quite well written. Unfortunately, this one is not, at least not in the beginning chapters. I have gotten through the first few chapters but not without considerable difficulty. I can only assume that Gary was working with a prerelease version of CS since the steps he lists simply do not work as indicated much of the time and I know his quality standard is generally high. This is so frustrating that I just wanted to put down the book and find another. Chapter one is CS basics, and if you don't get the basics, it is difficult to go any farther. I tried the SAMS Publishing website for errata but found none. If you already have a good understanding of Photoshop, the book should be much easier to follow and offer some excellent tips and procedures, however, I would not recommend it for a beginner.

1.0 von 5 Sternen The worst kind of manual 12. Januar 2005
Von J. E. Dowdle - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This is the worst kind of manual - a tutorial. Everything is turotials. You can't get a simple answer to a simple question. For example. Have a question about selection markees? All you can do is follow a tutorial for page after page looking for something that might be applicable to your actual question. There is no simple explanation of the various markees. It's the same with any question you might want an answer to. Go to their CD, open their files and follow a tutorial that might eventually get you where you need to go and might not. Can you tell I'm hot? I just wasted $50 on this book.

Also, this is a PC book, which gives bare lipservice to the Mac world. If you work on a Mac, don't buy this book
