There is not much to say other than this book is really a fantastic read. More and more books are being published on Brazil's drug trafficking and children soldier, but sometimes they just focus on that, without getting into much detail and context of the life around it. This novel brings a terrific account of a kid growing up to become head of a faction, but also tells the story of a community within brazilian society. Character development is wonderful, although I was a little disappointed by the sister (Caroline) as she just seemed so weak to be make any sense.
The writing style amazed me, I felt the pace of writing was dragging me, I would get carried away (I was being walked by the dog, rather than me wlkaing i). it enlivened the each character and helped the plot with fun twists and turns, making this book not just a traficante story, but a gripping contemporary view of brazilian society.
A wonderfully well written and developed fast paced book that will keep you hooked for a few days!
