Learn Native American Crafts from Headress to Totem Poles

My mother bought me this book when I was six at my request, I still use it as a reference. I learned how to build and use a bead loom from this book, made a fake bear claw necklace, my own moccasins, and simple dance steps. Most of all I find that this book allowed me to learn all the work that goes in to the wonderful Native American costumes seen at Pow Wows today. All of this said, the book is out of date. It comes from a time when Native Americans were called Indians and their culture thought by many Americans to be dead. Hunt writes this book so that Boy Scouts can dress up and pretend to be Indians. If you can understand the time when this book was written and over look it you can take some wonderful things from this book. It is a book originally written for young adults, today if you give it to a yound adult please make sure to discuss how alive Native American Culture is with the young person. Even if it is dated I still have to give this book five stars.

Indian Crafts and Lore by Ben Hunt

This book was in my elementary school library when I was a child and it used to be my favorite book to check out. In fact I think it was every little boy's favorite because it was always being checked out by someone and was hard to get sometimes. The colorful illustrations and detailed imformation made it fascinating to read and made you want to make all the crafts in the book. Again, the colorful illustrations brought indian culture to life and made every little boy reader want to be an American indian. This book made such an impact on me that at eleven years of age I ordered a bunch of feathers and beads from an indian crafts supply catalog and made my very own 30 feather indian war bonnet and it is my prized possesion to this day. For years I searched book stores and indian craft supply catalogs for this book which I later found to be out of print. Now I have finally found it at Amazon.com. I will definately be ordering a copy and look forward to a life long dream of having a copy of my own. Thanks Amazon.com for helping make a dream come true for me. ...
