One must understand the book was compiled while the investigation into the "Somalia Incident" was being carried out, therefore no mention of the Matchee/Brown murder could be made. That seems to be the only drawback of this excellent book, which provides a stunning amount of detail on not just the Airborne's Battle Group, but the deployment of many CF assets, including naval and aviation, to the region. A complete nominal roll is included, a list of awards (including many decorations for valour/merit) and a text rich in not just background detail, organization information, and the like but also personal experiences and detail on such things as rations. The book is a treasure trove for good detail and this is probably the best attempt to document a Canadian military operation since the Korean War. Excellent photographs as well, though some more colour photos would have pleased the casual reader. Great value for the money and recommended to anyone interested in what Somalia was all about.
