2.0 von 5 Sternen CIPT2 v8 "Foundation" v.s. Study Guide 31. Dezember 2011
Von Elmer Deloso - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

After studying this book for weeks, I would like to share my opinion based on years of experience in studying Ciscopress books (CCNP, CCSP, CCIP, and CCIE Professional Development series). As the previous reviewer said, this one is very dry. I'm going through my second round of highlighters in preparation for the CIPT2 exam. After waiting for months for this book to arrive, I was hoping that the delay was due to Ciscopress QA working to deliver a great book. Unfortunately, this one falls short compared to many other great books in the past (Odom, Wallace, Doyle, etc). There are way too many repeated sentences and even paragraphs throughout this book. Pages could have been better used for elaborating difficult topics with examples (e.g Figure 4-15, 16 & 17);Figure 4-11 TEHO diagram that's almost unreadable without a magnifying glass; p. 146 SRST Dial Plan example in just four sentences of explanation (really??) which could have been elaborated; p. 145 Keeping Calling Privileges Active in SRST Mode should have shown a topology/scenario example and not just outlined in three bullets of "guidelines".

This is really a disheartening trend in Ciscopress study guides (yes, CIPT1 v8 is not that much better and we all waited for months for its release). What happened to the Theory-then-Lab approach like the old BSCI book? That would be more useful for us who need to have a thorough understanding of the product and would be supporting them, instead of reading repetitious sentences and paragraphs.

I dread the release (if they ever get published) of the TUC and APP exam study guides! Ciscopress' CCVP series books are the worst series for years now. We need better study guides!

This is a far cry from the CCNP BSCI 2nd edition by Paquet and Teare (ISBN 158705146X).

Surely the simplest thing to ensure is correct is the Chapter Review Q&A. But frequently the answers to the questions are wrong. For example, sometimes the multiple-choice questions ask something like "Which TWO of the following blah blah blah?", but the answer only lists one choice, not two.
How can you have any confidence in any of the Review Question answers if there are errors as fundamental as this??

I also agree with the other reviewers that some of the material is reiterated needlessly.

This book will probably help me do some prep for the relevant exam (642-457) but I would not like to depend on it too heavily.

2.0 von 5 Sternen CIPT2 Study Guide 30. Juli 2013

Overall, I was disappointed with this Cisco Press release. It almost seems that they were rushed to push this book out with very little edits or reviews. As other reviewers mentioned, certain Review Questions had incorrect answers and/or missing the multiple choice answers. There were tons of repeated sentences and paragraphs. NOTE sections were constantly repeated. By repeated, I literally mean a cut and paste. Many of the CUCM config examples were very small and blurry. This book was written to present subject matter and then quickly move onto other topics without any extra real-life scenarios besides the cookie cut example they provide. This definitely would of been very helpful with Chapter 4's Dial Plan configurations for TEHO, globalized, and localized call routing. The one thing I did appreciate were the detailed command-line examples and configuration descriptions.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Not the most exciting book, but very informative 23. November 2011

This book reads like a text book, very dry, like literary Novocaine. I can only get through maybe 50 pages before my eyes start to droop and my brain bails out. Some of the other technical Cisco books I've read have included a bit of humor and levity to help break up the monotony, this one not so much.

Very informative. They could use an editor, a lot of typos.
