Synopsis

Everyone wants to laugh about his job. No one has the time to delve into the cause and effect of work because..."it's just a job." So a good laugh sidesteps it all. A satire on the culture of the common worker, "IDW" takes a stab at working relationships and situations and how they can impact the quality of one's working life. Is anyone ever properly prepared and/or educated to deal with the daily challenges of being at work? Do you find you only have one response - a knee jerk reaction that acts like a boomerang? The every day grind parallels any dysfunctional relationship where one person sets all the rules and you only get to follow them. Most business books are geared toward management and career climbing. Well, there is no management and no career climbing without the working class. There are more workers sitting back to watch the comings and goings than those who make the decisions. The working class has its own problems dealing with one another, much like the monkeys at the bottom of the tree looking up at the rest of the monkeys climbing to the top. The group at the bottom looking up that tree says it all. "IDW" is a quick read that can be approached in a number of ways - by individual chapter, haiku, bullet points, or your own activity. Its chameleon-like quality is its mystique and is whatever you want it to be - edgy, coping, insightful, ridiculous. So during a break, on a plane, in the bathroom, waiting in line, you can keep yourself company. "IDW" is your secret pal.

5.0 von 5 Sternen laugh out loud 30. November 2005

Deg Lasdio has really hit a nerve, or should I say funny bone, with this hilarious sendup of all those people who drive us crazy at work, wherever that may happen to be. Everyone will recognize most of these types, and the short format of the descriptions make the book perfect for brief bursts of reading. It's hard to read surreptitiously, though, because howling with laughter occurs all too often. The acronyms, nicknames and the fun illustrations really added to my enjoyment of this charming and wickedly perceptive book.

Ever sit at your desk at work, look around you and think, "Who are these people?" If so, this is the book for you. This book offers a fresh and humorous perspective on the different (and sometimes difficult) personalities that we all encounter in the business world. Somehow, DL just makes them seem funnier. A great gift for the new college grad or for anyone who's ever wanted a good laugh at work!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Someone who knows about work 28. November 2005
Von gameguide - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I had a lot of fun reading this book. The writer describes every kind of coworker with accurate detail. The writing is easy and the book can be read over and over. I especially got a kick out of the many haikus. This book will make a great gift and will cheer up any disgruntled worker. I found it refreshing that there is someone out there who knows how the work environment can be.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Not so deviant, it's surprisingly sane. . . 28. November 2005

I wasn't sure how to approach it at first - but it's true, it's just like work, everything is coming at you - the haikus, footnotes, bullet points. If your're expecting to read a book line-by-line, from front to back - this is not for you. After I got used to it, I just went for the ride and enjoyed it.

Anything you might be feeling at work but could not put into words, I found here. Sometimes a little warped, but a truth nonetheless. With the humor on top of it, it was any easy read and I looked forward to the asides.

If you are disgruntled and need to remove yourself from your situation for a moment, just settle in on a few pages. I would especially recommend this book to anyone who is just starting to work. It would save a few years of grief.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Striking Persepective on Work 30. November 2005
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
This book definitely captures the pain inherent in, and the uncertainty and outright absurdity of, work relationships. If you have ever felt like a fish out of water in any aspect of your life this book will resonate with you and make you consider your priorities. A must read for any unhappy worker!
