There are many things about this series that I liked. Aside from the ease with which you can follow the characters and what's going on, I liked all the interesting aspects the author put into place.
Such as the Well of Thought where Kevik is tested to move from Apprentice to Practitioner. And Riyan and Chad's time at the Warriors Guild. Their training and testing. When I first realized the author planned to go into detail about thier training, I groaned. But once I actually reached that part, found it not to be boring or dreadful. He kept it going by only giving the more exciting aspects of it.
Another aspect I liked was Kevik's estate, the one he received when his master was killed in the first book. There are still a couple rooms with wards from his mater's time that he can't get through. Can't wait until he gets up in levels so we can see what's in there. Has to be something good!!
There is action, more than in the previous book. Like when they flee into a forest to escape Durik. That sequence has some of Pratt's most ingenious stratagems to date. Especially the 'demon'. I'll not further into it than that.
Creativity, action, and most of all, a good story. This is another enjoyable series by a good author. Read it!!
