This is an excellent book for someone who has no idea about cooking. The pictures are really good for showing how to cut and chop, how individual ingredients are prepared and added, and how a dish should look as it cooks. It covers simple down-home dishes like scrambled eggs, but it also offers recipes for salads, soups, and stews in which basics are given a bit of a twist. I recommend it for any young person who is moving out on his or her own for the first time. But even an experienced cook can learn new techniques. This won't be the only cookbook you will ever need, but it will certainly take you to the place where you can use with confidence any other cookbook that strikes your fancy.
