Taschenbuch --

This book has long been recognized as one of the true classics of chess literature, with extraordinary instructional content. Author Paul Schmidt, an Estonian International Chess Master who once drew a match with the legendary Paul Keres, attempts in this book to show the thought processes by which a chessmaster analyzes the strengths and weaknesses in a position and decides upon a course of action. In his forward, Schmidt writes “I have tried in my annotations to reconstruct the thought processes that enable masters to find good moves. These thought processes in many cases take place completely unconsciously, especially among the very best players. To the average player, the moves a chessmaster makes may seem the result of pure intuition. However, there is no doubt that even the subconscious thinking of chessmasters occurs in a thoroughly logical manner and is, at least in its structure, analyzable." This book will become one of your most valuable companions as you develop your chess game.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Classic for Understanding Chess Move Selection 26. September 2013
Von Glenn E. Mitchell II - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
This is a classic book that describes how chess masters think under tournament conditions. The book considers both the analytic factors in the games and also the psychological dynamics.

While the games are old, the analysis is easily understandable by intermediate players. I'd say anyone ELO 1400 or above should be able to follow the annotations quite easily. The book has plenty of board diagrams, too. I'd recommend working through the book without a board to improve your visualization skills. You'll typically only need to keep just a move or two (or maybe three) in your head between diagrams.

The book moves back and forth between white and black perspectives for each game.

If you're looking for expert guidance on how chess masters evaluate positions, formulate plans, and select a move, then you'll want to read a copy of "How Chessmasters Think." Priced at $5.99 for the Amazon Kindle, it's a bargain!

5.0 von 5 Sternen An Inside View of the Development of Ideas During Actual Play 9. August 2006
Von David De Sousa - Veröffentlicht auf
This book is not intended to teach any specific aspect of the game (opening, middle-game or ending), but to show how the plans and ideas develop during tournament play. The book is designed for intermediate and beginners that are new to tournament play, but already have a good knowledge of the fundamental concepts of chess play

This book presents 15 Grandmaster's games commented and described play by play, elaborating on the logic development of thinking needed to discover a good move. Is like having the grandmaster thinking aloud as they evaluate every position and play along the game.

An interesting and stimulating read for any serious player and anyone interested to enter tournament play and trying to improve his analytical skills for tournament play.
