Low-rent bounty hunter Stephanie Plum reaches depths of personal experience that other women detectives never quite do. In Hot Six, for example, a sequence of new and hideous cars bite the dust; she finds herself lumbered with a policeman's multiply incontinent dog; and she has several bad skin days. All this when she is trying to prove her distinctly more competent colleague and occasional boyfriend Ranger innocent of a mob hit; avoid the heavies trailing her in the hope of finding him; and cope with a wife-abusing bail defaulter with nasty habits, such as setting Stephanie on fire. The peculiar joy of this series is the comic sense of place; Plum's New Jersey is one where everyone you meet, even the most dangerous of criminals, was at school with you, or stole your mother's first boyfriend, or gave your great-aunt a middling good recipe for meatloaf. Evanovich has built up an attractive cast of comic characters with Stephanie's extended family and those of her two boyfriends, the dashing and sinister Ranger and Joe Morelli (the cop whose family are only too keen on his marrying Stephanie). Hot Six will not disappoint either her fans or newcomers. --Roz Kaveney

5.0 von 5 Sternen Bad Boys, Big Dogs, and Belly Laughs 27. Juni 2000
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Someone has shot Homer Ramos in his father's office building and then set the building on fire. He was one bad hombre and won't be terribly missed in the community. Trouble is, there's a security tape showing the delectable Ranger as the last person out of the building and the cops are looking for him. Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum needs to find Ranger fast, for both professional and personal reasons. While Stephanie is busy looking for Ranger, her Grandma Mazur moves in with her. Granny's taking driving lessons and the proud owner of a red 'Vette bought at a "fire sale." She's still toting her .45 in her purse and is as big a hoot as ever. Between Granny's snoring, arch-rival Joyce's hounding her, Ranger's midnight break-ins, and Morelli's passionate proximity, Stephanie isn't getting a lot of sleep and a regular job at McDonald's is starting to look pretty good to her. To further complicate matters, Stephanie's being tailed everywhere she goes by two goons who work for a man who thinks Ranger has something that belongs to him and that Stephanie will lead him to Ranger.
Lula and Connie are back in "Hot Six", plus Bob, the dog Stephanie has inadvertently acquired. Bob is a loveable idiot who I hope sticks around. All of these volatile characters combust right off the pages in an explosion of lunacy and laughs which is just sheer delight to read. I laughed out loud 'til my stomach hurt! The mystery gets solved and Stephanie escapes immolation by the seat of her pants; alas, another couple of her cars aren't so fortunate. Stephanie proves once again that she can get the job done, but her love life is as schizo as ever. Evanovich just keeps getting better and better. Bravo!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Side-splitting installment delivers huge laughs 21. Juni 2000
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Have you asked yourself if Stephanie Plum's adventures could get any funnier? With HOT SIX, the answer to that is a resounding yes! Stephanie Plum, intrepid bounty hunter, has a problem (or two or three) in this hilarious installment. Her sexy mentor, Ranger, is wanted by the police for questioning with regard to a murder in which he was caught on videotape at the crime scene. Stephanie isn't the only person wanting to find him. There's also Steph's off-again/on-again boyfriend/cop Joe, Mitchell and Habib, two of the least competent thugs in the business and, of course, Steph's boss, Vinnie, who hates losing all that bail bond money. As if Ranger's situation wasn't enough to put Stephanie in a tizzy, she acquires two more roommates -- Grandma Mazur and Bob, the golden retriever with an eating disorder. How many cars will Stephanie demolish? Will she give into Ranger's considerable temptation? Will Joe lose his fear of commitment? Will Lula shoot someone? It's testimony to Janet Evanovich's considerable storytelling skills that not only do you care about the answers to such questions, you fervently wish these people existed! With breakneck pacing, sharp dialogue, highly imaginative and hilarious plot developments, and a vibrant cast of characters, HOT SIX is another winner in this terrific series.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Plum Perfect, Again 26. Juli 2000
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Janet Evanovich has created a most hysterical heroine (yet again) in Stephanie Plum in this sixth adventure. Let me just say this about "Hot Six" I bought it 10 minutes after I finished High Five. No joke, I couldn't wait to find out who the lucky man in her life was, and what other FTA's might come her way, and how she will (eventually) get her man. I didn't really think I could ever like someone more than Kinsey Milhone of the Sue Grafton fame, but I do. "Hot Six" should keep you pretty much in stitches, or tears from laughing at the countless shenanigans Stephanie falls victim to. From the dog, to the Dealer and Mooner to her gun carring grandma, Stephanie handles it all with...ease? Oh, and don't let me forget about the two men in her life, Ranger and Morelli. Better yet, don't get me started. It's too good to tell! You'll have to read this book. There are no two ways about it. I would have given this book more than 5 stars on the rating scale, but they don't allow it! Anyway, READ it, LAUGH, and PASS IT ON to your friends and family. I bet a dollar to a doughnut, you'll hardly be able to wait for the next Stephanie Plum adventure!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Evanovich is Entertainment Plus! 24. März 2004
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
This book (also her Number 7, 8, and 9 books) is fantastic ! Stephanie, Grandma, Bob the dog, Lulu (the full-sized woman) and a host of others are all in this book of merry mayhem. Evanovich whips out a story full of humor (mostly), action and romance. The dialog of the characters in the book is out of this world and will keep you laughing 'til your sides split.
Caution: Do not eat while reading this book. I did -- and I almost strangled myself because I was laughing so hard.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Slapstick Rules as Klutzy Criminals Cruise 29. Juli 2000
Von Donald Mitchell TOP 500 REZENSENT
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
This book belongs in a new category: Something like comedy that contains crime as a background. Seriously, this book is almost as funny as if The Three Stooges played the criminals and took on The Keystone Kops.
The story has several running gags that are well sustained. Stephanie Plum and those who are attracted to her are very interested in having sexual relations, but are continually stymmied in unpredictable ways. Bob, the dog, comes into Stephanie's life, and one disaster follows another. This dog is the Lucille Ball of animals, and makes a complete farce out of every situation. The criminals in question are so clumsy and stupid that they continually give themselves away, leaving you with virtually no mystery to hold in your hands. Stephanie continually has her efforts to be a bounty hunter turn out poorly, yet somehow she gets out of the worst of what could happen with another hilarious mishap scene. Stephanie's grandmother decides she wants to ride the wild side and moves in with Stephanie. Between her interest in men and snoring, she is driving Stephanie up a wall. There are more such running gags, but you get the idea. Many books make the mistake of overdoing a single running gag. By filling this book to the brim with them, none are overdone.
Few novels feel like they should be a movie, but this is clearly one of them. Each scene is very visceral in its development and humor.
You may not want to read this book right away. It is so funny that you may want to save it for an emergency, like the fire hose in most building hallways. You can be sure you'll laugh your head off whenever you do read it.
