This book is crammed full of brilliance and wonder. It has adventure and action that would make your head blow off. I would recommend this book to anyone who could read it because it makes your imagination soar. I think this would go well for everyone who doesn't mind sword fighting, spell casting, and evil monsters. This story takes place in a realm that is in the depths of earth called the Underdark. It centers on a Drow. (Drow are elves with dark skin and white hair. They are cousins to the elves that live on the surface.) Most Drow live in the huge city of Menzoberanzan where a lot of the story occurres. The Drow that the story centers on is named Drizzt Do'Urden and you will meet his friends, family, companions, and enemies. It talkes about what he goes through living in the city and what he feels about his people and their ways. This book is full of suprises and turn. Another thing that is awsome is the conclusion to story is great and It's part of a trilogy called "The Dark Elf Trilogy" so after your done with the book there is more action to come. This book swept me off my feet and I couldn't put it down. It was so good I read it twice. This book didn't have any problems with it but if I have to say a bad aspect it would be that in the begining you don't quite understand what is going on, but shortly after everything falls into place. The best aspects are how well they discribe the fights and the surroundings that the elves encounter. This is one of the best books I have ever read and I give it five stars. I hope that you will enjoy this book as much as I have because it's a keeper.

Having not read any other Salvatore books, I was impressed by this apparantly 'background' piece of a character from another series. In it's own right this is a well-written, engaging work. The city of the Drow underground is believably and interestingly thought out and described, and the characters well-drawn. Drzzt is well-rounded and genuinely catches your attention and empathy. An easy book to get caught up in and just enjoy. Hard to fault for a good fantasy ride - it delivers. Worth buying. I'll see if he can keep it up for the next book.

I started reading this particular type of genre when I was in the sixth grade ... that was last century ... well, the Ice Age actually. The Lord of the Rings has and always will be a favorite, and it is because of Mr. Tolkien, God rest his soul, that fantasy fiction has flourished. If you pay close attention to the place names, towns, halls, mountains, etc., in Mr. Salvatore's work, you will seem many similarities. MANY.
I am now 27 years old... OY! And I just had the pleasure of reading The Dark Elf trilogy last year, and The Icewind dale books, and the rest of Drizzt's adventures. I was highly entertained, and impressed. My only drawback, is that someone else got to Guen's name before me, so I had to change the spelling. Please forgive me oh gentle creature.
If you have not had the opportunity to read these books, I urge you to do so. Even if you are 10, 30, or 60... everyone could use a great dose of fantasy once in a while. Esp. when it is written with a master's pen...

If there was six stars to rate, I would do it.
The mystery of the dark elves could not of been uncovered better by any other writer. Props to whoever at TSR gave Salvatore the duty to give life to the dark denizens beneath the... Lesen Sie weiter...

Drizzt is the Man
This is the best book ever. I never even read before I got this book. Now I read every book with Drizzt I can find. If you like good hardcore fighting this is the book for you.
