[This book was originally published with the title Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites (Fair Winds Press, 2011)]

Calling All Insatiable Appetites!

To anyone who’s ever thought “a meal without meat is a terrible thing to eat,” we’ve got news for you: You’re about to sink your teeth into some of the best food you’ve ever eaten. Food that happens to be vegan but is so full of hearty flavor and taste that even your non-vegan guests—and family members—will be left wondering if they just ate a meatless meal or a Thanksgiving feast.
Inside, you’ll be treated to a vast collection of more than 200 “secret weapon” recipes from authors Celine Steen and Joni Marie Newman, two plant-based pros who know what it takes to wow the socks off of anyone with straight-up great food. From Banana Split Waffles to Ultimate Patty Melts, they’ll show you (and your meat-loving guests) that eating vegan doesn’t mean sacrificing flavor, but rather enhancing it using the natural flavors found in fruits, vegetables, grains, spices, herbs, and more.
Recipes include:
- Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes
- Hearty Breakfast Bowl
- Chocolate Stout Chili
- Sweet Potato Po' Boys
- Five-Cheese Baked Macaroni and Cheese
- Crispy Burritos con Carne
- Garlic Truffle Fries
- Sun Dried Tomato, Garlic, and Basil Flatbread
- Strawberry Cream Pretzel Pie
- White Chocolate Almond Bars
- Peanut Butter Rocky Road Pound Cakes
Whether you’re looking to impress or indulge—or both!—Home-Cooked Vegan Comfort Food is your ultimate source for mean and mouthwatering eats at every meal.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Reprint of Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites 6. August 2013
Von Michelle - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites: Lip-Smacking, Belly-Filling, Home-Style Recipes Guaranteed to Keep Everyone-Even the Meat Eaters-Fantastically Full Home-Cooked Vegan Comfort Food is essentially a reprint/repackage of Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites. This wasn't in the product description so I was awfully disappointed when I received my copy today. But if you don't have HVMFMA, then this would be a great book - I love Celine's and Joni's books. I'll be returning my copy though since I don't need basically the same book with a different cover/title.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Confused... 5. August 2013
Von Elizabeth A. Herrick - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Based on the description, this is the same cookbook as "Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites" - which is a 5-star cookbook, for sure... but why would they release the same one with a different name/cover (esp. since it's not that old - 2011)? Maybe when there is a "Look Inside" I can compare them again - but ALL of the recipes listed in the description are in HVMforMA.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great Book! 29. August 2013
Von MaryAnn - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Here is the essential cookbook for any of America's more than 6 million vegans who miss the down-home tastes they remember (or want to try), or for vegetarians and even meat-eaters who want to add more plant-based foods to their diets, but don't know where to start.

Every recipe so far has been delicious. Plus my very non vegan husband didn't even know he was eating all vegan. I would recommend this book to people who are vegan and miss some yummy cheese recipes from before they were vegan. Also to people thinking about going vegan, or new vegans. The recipes were easy to follow and the ingredients easy to find and affordable.

This book is full of wonderful surprises, recipe names that sound nice, but in reality are so much more than that. They are new permanent fixtures in my life, and I am so very grateful for them. Delicious, nutritious, easy to make and fun to love, this book should be in everyone's, vegan or not, kitchen library.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites - Reprinted. 21. Oktober 2013
Von Kyleigh - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
A lot of people seem to be confused about this book. It is just a re-print of the book "Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites" my understanding of the situation is that the book was reprinted under a new title to inspire better sales. The publishers thought the original title didn't properly reflect the content of the book to attract the right customers. So if you have Hearty Meals then you don't need this book. and If you don't have Hearty Meals then this is my original review which I posted on that book.

First it must be said that this is not a book for vegans who are looking to `slim-down' or for sick people looking to get healthy. This is not a salt, sugar, oil free diet book, it's not a diet book at all. Some people may take issue with that but I don't. Though I follow a mostly whole-food, plant-based vegan diet I do occasionally like to indulge in gourmet fare, and good `ole down-home comfort food too. This is not an everyday cook book for me, it's not even an every week or every month cook book for me, but in those times when all I crave is something `bad for me' this is my go-to. The recipes are simply fantastic, and the authors are great at giving you what you want. Provided of course what you want is a little indulgence.

There are ways that you can make the recipes more healthful. If you're proficient in baking or cooking then it's easy to switch out ingredient or make substitutions. I tend not to do this because I bought this book fully knowing what it was about. I bought it with the intention of letting myself indulge, but for those who may not have read about the book before purchase there are ways you can tailor it to better suit your needs.

Since I don't use the book everyday I haven't been able to make as many recipes as I would like, which is sad because so many of them look phenomenal, but of the ones I have made this is what I thought.

Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes - LOVE IT
Banana Split Waffles - Pretty Good! I made these for my husband for his birthday last year. The waffle portion was excellent, but my sweet tooth gets overloaded easily so I could have probably done without all the toppings. This is definitely good for someone who like sweet though.
Hawaiian Benedict - LOVE IT, Oh my how I loved this!
Chorizo and Egg Frittata - LOVED IT
Coconut Creme Brulee Baked Oatmeal - Pretty good!
Go Bananas Bread - LOVED IT - we're real banana bread coinsures and this version went over big in my house.
Roasted Broccotato Soup with Bacon-Flavored Chickpeas - LOVED IT! I especially loved the bacon chickpeas because It's healthier and more economical then using TVP bacon.
Lentil and Bacon Pot O' Stew - LOVED IT
Stew-Tatouille - Loved it!
Chocolate Stout Chili - Pretty good. Typically I'm not a chocolate in my Chili fan but this one was good. Loved the stout in it.
The Monte Cristo - this is really good, but it's processed food overload. Definitely a once in a while affair, but worth making.
Tempeh Pepper and Spinach Pesto Sandwich - Loved it, a big hit with friends too
Sweet Potato Po'Boys - LOVED IT! Loved the creativity of this dish, amazing!
Waldorf Salad Wraps - Pretty good
Seitan Burgers for Chilies and Stews - Loved them. It's a really interesting cooking method and they have a good texture. They also smell divine when baking. I haven't yet tried eating them straight but they've been great in the stews I've used them in.
Sloppy Jo-nis - Pretty good but not my fave sloppy joe recipe
Sweet and Sour Meatballs - These didn't do it for me.
Piggies in a Blanket - Loved them! I made these last Christmas Eve and they were a huge hit with omni family members who didn't even realize they were vegan. I used Field Roast Frankfurters, and Daiya Cheese.
BBQ Slaw Tacos - Loved it
Brussels Sprout and Chestnut Pot Pie - Loved this! It was Amazing!
Cheesy Chili Bake - Loved it
Five Cheese Baked Mac and Cheese - Loved it, Probably the best vegan mac and cheese I've ever had.
Beefy-Cheesy Mac. I Loved this. On the day I made it I was feeling a bit under the weather and needed something comforting. This really hit the spot.
Irish Nachos - Loved it! Really Amazing, I've made these a couple of times for a quick meal.
Twice Baked Potatoes - Loved it
Orange Chipotle Wings - LOVED IT, simply amazing!
Baked Asparagus with Mushroom Sauce - Not for me.
Root Beer Beans - Loved it!
Sweet Peppercorn Coleslaw - Loved it!
Eat your Collard Greens - Loved it!
Southern Fried Cabbage - Loved it!
Sweet Whole Wheat Rye Bread - pretty good
Avocado Rolls - Loved it! These are amazing I've made them many times.
Scarborough Fair buns - Loved it! I've also made these many times
White Panini Rolls - Loved it! I've also made these several times. They're soft and moist.
Whiskey BBQ Sauce - Loved it
Spinach Pesto - LOVED IT so creamy and delicious
Tofu Mayo - pretty good
Creamy Cheesy Sauce - Loved it
Walnut-Parmesan Sprinkles - Loved it
TVP Chorizo - Loved it
Imitation Bacon Bits - Loved it!
Basic Pie Crust - Loved it

Other things that I love about this book is the beautiful layout. There are so many gorgeous phonographs that really help to inspire you to want to make the dishes. I also love the easy conversational tone the authors write in, and their humor. Even though this is not a book I would use every day due to the un-healthfulness of it, it is a book I come back to again and again when I want comfort food, or for when I'm cooking for omnivores. This is a really fantastic book to use when cooking for omni's and I really wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to a friend or family member. The instructions are clear and easy to understand and even things like making your own bread rolls don't seem to complicated or take up too much of your time. I only wish that I had more time to try more dishes, particularly the desserts which look and sound incredible.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Reprint of Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites 13. August 2013
Von C. Vegan - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
If you already own HVMFMA don't bother getting this, since it's just a reprint of that, and the only difference is the title. But if you don't, by all means get this!

I find the recipes included to work very well for pleasing omnis, and everything I've made has turned out well.
