Format:Audio CD
While Dr Who is filmed in Cardiff (where yours truely was born) they always pretend everything takes place in London. However Torchwood (move around the letters and you get Dr Who) the spin-off is filmed and based in Cardiff. So I love watching this programme and seeing all the places I know from back home! Once they even used my grand mothers old house!
'Hidden' takes place during the first series and this audio book was read by Toshiko (Naoko Mori). The story was good and well read but I have to say that the last few chapters were a little confusing. I actually went back and listened to a few parts again to make sure I was following things right.
A very interesting story with lots of information I missed Jack's presence alot as his character didn't come up often enough for my liking.
I have another audio book from the Torchwood series and will be listening to it soon. I have a few books as well but they seem to be gathering dust

Hidden was one of the early Torchwood audiobooks, read nicely by Naoko Mori (a.k.a., Tosh). It's a very unusual Torchwood story in that, as far as I can remember, it has absolutely nothing to do with aliens or alien artifacts (Countrycide is the only other example that comes to mind of a Torchwood story that meets the same criterion). It's actually more in the Dan Brown (The Da Vinci Code) style, as it involves an ancient arcane mystery (in this case, alchemy), a Templar-like secret society of masked gunmen willing to kill to keep their secrets, and a couple of brutal car chases (one of which leaves Ianto a bloody pulp). Also unusual for Torchwood is that Jack has more of a background role (he spends most of the time in a police interrogation room). On the whole, I'd probably give it an average grade--definitely better than Everyone Says Hello, but not as good as The Sin Eaters.
Good story, but curiously incomplete

The first three novels in the series are each 3 CDs long, even though they are abridged. This fourth novel, read by Naoko Mori (Toshiko's character), is 2 CDs long.
THE READING
Mori-san does a fine job reading the book, adding nice touches, such as when a guard is said to be muffled because he talking through the glass, she muffles her voice in speaking his words. She has a very clear English accent, rather like BBC English, thus very easy to understand.
THE STORY (NO SPOILERS)
Like the other stories in the first group of audiobooks, this one fits somewhere in the first season, though it could be early or mid second season as well.
Most Torchwood stories, both on TV and in the books (and audiobooks) tend to feature individual characters. This one is kind of an exception, in that the story bounces around all team members more or less equally. I suppose Owen and Gwen have the most air time, and Tosh and Ianto, as usual, the least. Unlike most Torchwood stories, we have no insight into the personal lives or feelings of any of the team members, for example Rhys is nowhere to be seen this time.
Whereas most Torchwood stories involve aliens, a few do not, and this is one of them. A discovery is made of some writings from an alchemist from some 500 years ago, and it seems that he was onto some ideas that are still of a great deal of interest - dangerously so, as the Torchwood team finds out when they get close to them.
I found the resolution of the story curiously unsatisfying. It is hard to know whether this from being abridged, or whether the author meant to have some mysteries left for us to ponder, but there were some things left explained that I would liked to have seen spelled out a bit more, for example, what exactly Jack DID do, and his motivation.
BOTTOM LINE
I rather liked the story up to the sudden conclusion without a satisfactory resolution, hence my rating of four stars. I do rather wish Toshiko got better roles in this series, and that Mori-san had a better book to show her considerable talents in reading.
