Wow! About damn time! 30. März 2011
Von Craig Davis - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
I do not take the time to do reviews for any product very often but when someone "hits one out of the park", I gotta say so!! Jack Watson has captured the true Cuba in this epic pictorial of this beautiful but seriously oppressed country. These are NOT the images you will see on post cards or government propaganda sites. Jack has truly went out of his way to shoot the real Cuba. In these images you can see and feel many emotions. You can see years of struggle on an elderly mans face. You can see the joy and hope in a young child's eyes. This book alone has made me feel for the Cuban people. While I have never traveled there myself, I feel as if I somehow have a greater connection to these warm and hard working people. I can only hope that one day they realize their dreams and true potential. Thanks to the author/photographer for taking me there!

Hidden Cuba 29. März 2011
Von Capt Les - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
As a young US Marine in 1969 I spent a short time in Guantanamo Bay and peering through the base perimeter fence I wondered what life was like for the Cuban people. Now through the author's word and camera lens, my suspicion back then is confirmed. Cuba is an impoverished nation frozen in time for half a century. It is a testament to the rest of the world that Socialism does not work.

The images presented in Watson's book are awesome! Exquisitely framed, they capture the soul of the Cuban people. The book left me feeling sad for the people of this beautiful island nation...kind and gentle people, struggling to survive under the iron hand of a Communist Dictator. As dictators are falling in the Middle East, Castro and his regime need to go as well.

A must read book for anyone thinking of finding a way to enter Cuba and what to expect once there.

Outstanding book 28. März 2011

Mr. Watson presents a sensitive behind the scenes look at the "real" Cuba. The haunting images of the people of Cuba reflect the indomitable will of the human spirit while simultaneously demonstrating the pain and inhibitions experienced under a repressive, demeaning system. As a Cuban-born American, this book makes me proud of the strength of character of those left behind while revealing the anguish of a population living under a government that inhibits the true potential of these resourceful people. The images of my boyhood were tastefully and beautifully documented with an artistic sense revealing the truth without exploiting the subjects. This is a book that all Americans should own to understand the true story of the communist enclave a mere ninety miles from the US.

GREAT BOOK!!!! 13. April 2011
Von Rick H. - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
As a photographer who has had the opportunity to travel to Cuba when I saw this book I had to take a look. I had purchased Mr. Watson's previous book on Glamour Photography and was very pleased so I was anxious to see what he had to offer on Cuba. I couldn't have been happier with what I found when the book arrived. I LOVE black & white photography and the majority of the book is presented that way. The photographs are OUTSTANDING!!! I keep flipping back again and again to my favorites. Many of the places Mr. Watson seems to have visited during his trip are familiar to me and brought back floods of memories. A first rate winner for sure and I highly recommend this book to anyone with a love of photography or an interest in Cuba.

Simply Stunning!!! 18. April 2011

For anyone interested in amazing and stunning photography of a mysterious place, Hidden Cuba is the book for you.

Jack Watson's images of Cuba have so much texture and character to them that the book is hard to put down. In many ways this book is a gallery of black and white images that remind me of photography you would expect to see in a National Geographic Magazine. Jack certainly has an eye for photographing interesting people. With a country that has so many impoverished people, there are shots in this book that I will always remember. You can see so much emotion and feeling on the faces of the people he has captured with his camera.

Cuba has been such a mysterious location for half a century and this book shows what life is like on a place that has been hidden from the United States. Once a beautiful location a long time ago life has changed tremendously.

If you are interested in seeing stunning images of Cuba and its people, or if you are one that appreciates amazing texture and expressive photography this is the book for you. I have certainly enjoyed this book and I look forward to going to Cuba eventually and seeing it for myself.
