From Library Journal
Herzfeld offers a useful handbook describing over 300 closed-end mutual funds as well as various trading strategies for individual investors. Closed-end funds are traded on the major exchanges; a fixed number of shares are available because the fund raises its money all at once while open-ended funds raise their money gradually. The thorough coverage befits Herzfeld's position as president of an advisory firm that specializes in this type of investment. He offers useful charts displaying funds sorted by category, advisory firm, performance, and expense rations for all funds he covers. Though performance results are given only through 1991, this book may complement current periodical services giving more timely data.

Kurzbeschreibung
Closed-end funds continue to gain prominence as one of today's most popular vehicles for buying stocks and bonds. This text aims to provide individual investors and professionals with access to information on these funds. This text presents information on how to invest wisely using closed-end funds, including: a listing of more than 300 closed-end funds; statistical analyses, comparisons and rankings of each fund; graphs that chart net asset value against price for every fund; and profiles of each fund's portfolio, including major holdings. For less experienced investors, there are also introductory sections that clearly outline what closed-end funds are, how they are brought to market, and how investors should evaluate and trade them.
