When too little is known and too much is feared, we turn to books. What makes the simple, straightforward story especially comforting and so close to a child's point of view is that it is written and illustrated by a teenage brother and sister who draw not only on their own feelings of being in the hospital, but the experience of offering support to close friends with serious illnesses. It is this spirit that inspired the authors to package with the book a soft, round stone for every child to hold-just like the talismanic stone in the story that Henry, the little sick hedgehog, must hold onto while undergoing the debilitating treatment offered up by the fearsome White Wolf. No matter how bad it gets, Henry clutches his stone for dear life-literally-and it reminds him that the dignity and courage he needs to get better are always with him.

Synopsis

The Power of believing

Beautifully illustrated story that moves the soul. This book fills your heart with joy. It's not only for sick children but any child that is enduring a difficult time in his or her life, like the sickness of a sibling, freind, parent or close one. I highly recommned this book to anyone that is able to read or is able to be read to, while experiencing the uncertainty of being ill.

Henry and the White Wolf is an extraordinary fable and a must-read for families with, and without, young loved ones who are ill. Beautifully written and illustrated, this magical little story offers hope and healing for children undergoing difficult medical procedures. The accompanying smooth pebble and the book are treasures to be held onto in time of sickness and in health. Enjoy this enchanting tale of strength, hope, and dignity.

A Gift of Courage

A superb little book! It's a truly wonderful gift for seriously ill children who are naturally frightened by the whole experience. Also a worthwhile gift for healthy children as well. A great way to teach compassion and prepare children for all sorts of scarey situations. The story is very sweet,and I applaud the talented young authors for their imagination and storytelling skill.
