Sounds a bit like Alex Cross (James Patterson), but this guy is nothing like Alex. He has edges, and not only positive characteristics. But his heart is in the right place.

The Pelecanos' language is very different from Patterson's. Much more colloquial, direct, and a lot of street-slang. This starts right at the first page and you might need some time to get used to it. But it is defenitely a welcome change to other books.
