Feisty Frederica Fitzgerald is just one day shy of her sweet sixteen when she’s nearly run over by a tall, dark dreamboat on a big black horse. Freddy can deal with the running over part—no harm done. The problem is the rider, Mr. Sex Bomb himself: Polydegmon, son of Hades and heir to the Greek Underworld.

Freddy’s hooked on Polydegmon from the start (although dude, togas went out of style several thousand years ago), being near him is enough to make her tingle down to her toes. But he’s got secrets he isn’t sharing, and trouble follows him closer than his own shadow: rabid dogs running around the suburbs, insane crows stalking Freddy and, worst of all, the feral fairies of the Wild Hunt trolling her hometown for their next bit of human game.

The closer Freddy gets to Deg, the weirder her life becomes, until Freddy discovers something about her own past that changes everything she ever thought she knew about herself. And her world…

4.0 von 5 Sternen mixture of gods- interesting read 18. November 2012
Von YA lit reviewer - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
Freddy has met someone who is drop dead gorgeous. Unfortunately, she finds out that she would have had an easier life if she had not met him being that he is the son of Hades, Greek god of the underworld. Now Freddy find herself caught as a pawn in a game of gods.

This book combines Celtic and Greek gods. This sounds like it could be disaster, but I thought it worked well together. I would have to say, I was happy to see who her father Collin turned out to be. I started to guess a few chapters before. Of all my Celtic myths I've read, he was always my favorite. Some of the others I had not heard of before and some I had. So it was a nice large mixture of people that all meshed well together.

The cover had me a bit confused as you were waiting to see if Freddy was the heir. The title and main character were not the same- which is what the cover kind of projected to me. It would have been better if Deg was on the cover with the title. The edit was fine and nothing was too distracting.

Yes, I would recommend this to people that like mythology in their stories. It was a unique read and easy to follow.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Great Read! 16. Januar 2012

Heir to the Underworld was the second book I have read by E.D. Walker and she hasn't failed me yet! A great Young Adult book that doesn't delve too far into the unwanted, this book is a fun mash of your Celtic Mythology meeting your Greek. The unique idea to combine both pantheons and watch them interact through the book makes it something you don't want to put down the entire time. The main character, Freddy, is witty and fun in a way that can be easy for the reader to relate to and make the reader want to get to know her better. And as for the main hotty, well you really should just read the book and trust me on this one, he's worth it!

All in all Heir to the Underworld is a wonderful read I would recommend to anyone who's a fan of Fantasy or Paranormal books!

Sometimes these books just end without really wrapping up the story line and you are left touching to turn pages that aren't there! The story was good but the end was disappointing!

4.0 von 5 Sternen 16 at your First Toga Party? Uh-oh... 21. April 2012

I loved that this book mixed Greek and Celtic mythology in a (fairly) believable way, and brought it to SoCal. (Why not, we got every other freak here, lol.) I also loved our lead heroine's voice - she sounded 16, whereas in a lot of YA the 16 year old sounds more like she's 60.

What threw me a little in the beginning was the title compared to the plot; I thought the heroine, Freddy was (or was supposed to be) the Heir to the Underworld. That refers to Polydegmon, the young man she falls in love with, though she is some kind of divine offspring, herself.

I did love Freddy, and her powerful archery and sword-fighting skillz, though I thought her mother was a bit weak and vapid, until the very end. I also wished I had gotten to see Persephone, my own favorite of the Greek myths, but although the story involved her sons, daughter, and husband, she was MIA.

The story concluded in a logical and satisfying fashion. Been puzzling over what didn't work for me, and conclude it was the pacing; some sections seemed to move a bit too fast, others seemed to drag a bit. But all in all I can recommend this as a good read and I'm looking forward to see what this author comes up with, next.
