I am struck by the magnanimity of this woman, Leanne Payne. From such humble beginnings and disadvantaged circumstances in the southern US, she rose to notoriety in the charismatic/healing prayer renewal of the latter 1900s, and even in to the 2000s. While many have written on the subject of healing prayer, few have written with such scholarly depth and insight from a traditional perspective. No others, in my opinion, combine such scholarship with such poetic depth as Ms. Payne does.
Integrating the variegated streams of theology, psychology, and the charismatic giftings, her writings are wonderful reads for anyone interested in healing prayer within general Christian orthodoxy. Of vital importance are the discussions of the true message of Jesus in contrast to the modern heresies of rationalism and gnosticism.
In this book, however, she is not given to lengthy discussions about these issues. She rather gives the account of how she found the path she did. You will be struck with the transparency and candor of this work as she describes her life from birth forward. Those who have read prior books of hers will find this a welcome addition and a peak into the personal life of a great woman of God. If you are want to see how she experiences the hand and presence of God through the events in her life, I would recommend you read this autobiography.
If you aren't familiar with Leanne Payne, I would recommend reading some of her other books first before this one. Try The Healing Presence or The Real Presence.
But if you are familiar with this "wise matriarch", make sure you read this book!
