Ha’ven Ha’darra is the Crown Prince of the Curizans, an advanced species known for their technology. They may not have the power to shift like the Valdier or the Sarafin but they have hidden powers of their own that they guard. Not even his best friends, Creon Reykill of the Valdier or Vox d’Rojah of the Sarafin, are aware of the powers he holds within his deadly frame.
Ha’ven is happy to help out his Valdier friend when he calls. There are only two things that satisfy the restlessness inside him – a good fight and an even better evening with a hot, willing female. He has no desire to settle down like his two friends have. He enjoys having his freedom and the wide sample of females at his disposal.
All of that changes when he catches a glimpse of the delicate beauty who looks through him as if he doesn’t even exist. His blood calls to her, his magic aches to meld with hers, but she blocks his every advance.
Emma Watson’s life was perfect. Her love for music and dance let her escape the overwhelming shyness that she suffered from all her life. When she is invited to travel with a group to promote music and dance for children in South America, she believes it is the perfect chance to discover who she can really be. Everything changes when she is kidnapped by a powerful drug lord. Beaten and forced to watch the torture of other women, she withdrawals into the world she feels safest – the one inside herself.

When she is rescued by creatures not of this world, they heal her physical wounds but cannot touch the ones deep inside her. She has given up on ever returning to her world and has little hope for the future. That is why she does not understand why one aggravating male suddenly won’t leave her alone. She wants nothing to do with men! They cause nothing but heartache and pain. She had been on the receiving end of their fists enough to know that! Why would she want one that could crush her with one hand?
No woman has ever turned Ha’ven Ha’darra down and he isn’t about to accept his mate doing it. He will show her that not all men are the same, even if he has to kidnap her and take her to his world to do it. He plans to show her the power she has hidden deep inside her and open her heart to the love he has in his.
Now, he just has a few extra problems to overcome. Her Valdier protectors have given him six months to change her mind about wanting to return to them, a traitor is trying to kill them both, and they have crashed on a remote moon.
Can he unlock her magic in time to save their love or will the traitor, determined to kill them, destroy her before he can?

5.0 von 5 Sternen This is surprisingly sweet..... 23. November 2013

I loved it! I love the world that Ms. Smith has created. It was 100% believable and felt very real. The story is so good that, romance aside, it is worth the investment of your time and money. This is a stand alone book and you don't have to read the Dragon Lords of Valdier series or Choosing Riley in order to enjoy this, though I recommend it as you will get "more" out of the story. I've read almost all the books by SE Smith and I found this one to be quite different in that it was actually a tender and sweet romance rather than a HOT romance.

Emma is a sweet human girl suffering from PTSD due to a horrific experience on Earth. She has closed down and no longer talks, eats very little and has lost the will to live. I was very moved by Ms. Smith's portrayal of her and thought Emma's withdrawal was 100% realistic. Ha'ven is a powerful Curzian prince and a total alpha male. His people have the power to manipulate energy (loved it!) and he can see aura's. When he walks into a dining room on the planet Valdier, his energy meshes with Emma's and he knows he found his mate. He immediately wants to claim her but he quickly realizes something is very wrong with her. Upon this realization, Ha'ven begins to carefully court Emma - trying to give her time to get to know him and trust him. I loved this part of the book - alot! I really appreciated that Ms. Smith gave us, the reader, the TIME to understand the magnitude of Emma's pain AND the time for the foundation of a relationship to be built. (I hate it when author's rush the "mating".) He soon has to leave Emma for a week and upon his return he kidnaps her. (LOVED IT!)

Once on board his ship, Emma has a nasty flashback and her terror was so gripping and poignant that it leaped off the page! I was 100% there. I thought her struggle to deal with her pain was very realistic. Now for the bad part - they mate right after this. Urgh! I really, really, REALLY thought it happened much too quickly considering she had just had a pretty dang traumatic flashback. Their mating at that time felt like a let down, and didn't seem realistic. I didn't like the quick transition from traumatized Emma to sexually prowess Emma. Now, I know and indeed wanted the transition to occur, I just wish it would have taken a bit longer. Considering Emma's emotional state it just didn't seem realistic.

**********END SPOILER**********

The rest of the story was great and I enjoyed it immensely. All the worlds, aliens and creatures that Ms. Smith creates are so amazing and we get a heartfelt and satisfying HEA. If your looking for a sci-fi romance that is more on the sweeter side, you will LOVE this!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Ha'Ven's Song: A Beautiful Melody!! 24. November 2013
Von K. Arendt - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Five stars is too low for another literary masterpiece by S. E. Smith! Ha'Ven's Song picks right up where Paul's Pursuit left us hanging and absolutely DID NOT DISAPPOINT!

So far we have learned that there are three dominant species in this star system: 1) Curizan Warriors: A technologically advance race, many also have the ability to control the energy around and within them giving them additional powers. They are fierce fighters. They are ruled by the royal family Ha'darra. 2) Dragon shifting race with a golden symbiot. The Valdierians are ruled by the Reykill royal family. & 3) Sarafin Warriors: Cat-shifting race who are fierce fighters. They are ruled by the royal family d'Rojah. These three fierce warrior class planets are now allies after a century long dispute called "The Great Wars".

Since the Valdeierians & Sarafinians obviously change form, their "gifts" are hard to miss. However, beyond being "technologically" gifted, the Curizians have kept their "gifts" more secret. In Ha'Ven's Song, we learn much more about Ha'Ven & the Curizian people & to loyal readers of these series, that was FABULOUS!

Ha'Ven is, and has been forced to be, a strong, Alpha male, who survives "against all odds". He carries internal scars from the long, war that was (& still is) revealed to be filled with one traitor & evil plot after another.

Emma is slowly willing herself "away" due to her own mental war zone that she can't seem to escape. Though she PHYSICALLY survived her ordeal, does she have the will to move on? Where does she fit in, if any where?

Ha'Ven and Emma's "courtship" was precious & more unique than any of the other matings from previous stories. I was won over by Ha'Ven's patience & empathy towards Emma (even though he did reach his limit). And Emma did not just "miraculously" snap out of her mental state. S. E. Smith showed how real connection & investment of time, emotion & trust grew in stages.

Absolutely loved this book and recommend it to everyone along with all of the companion books! If you've just stumbled into this galaxy, you're in for a real treat!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Disappointed in This One. . . 23. November 2013
Von Daniel F. Bowen - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I have read every one of S. E. Smith's books, loved some more than others, but have followed her work. I absolutely adored Choosing Riley but her last two books, including this one, are disappointing.

My main problem is how the story is presented. I'm not sure if it's the tense it's told in or the very few instances of personal dialogue, even though most of the story is told from both Ha'ven and Emma's point of view, I got tired of being told the story instead of sinking into it. The characters lacked dimention, that sparkle, that would make me love to sink into them and their world.

Every scene having the bare bones and moving on to the next.

Ha'ven is losing control of his powers. He doesn't know how it happened but when he's around Emma his powers are balanced. While he's worried about hurting her . . . because he has no control. . . SOMEHOW. . . It all works out. She's not hurt, their powers intertwine and each feels stronger, better, and at peace. As the story unfolds, Ha'ven realizes Emma can't control her powers, that they could be a danger, as he well knows from personal experience. So knowing all this, does Ha'ven teach her about her powers and how to control them? No. She doesn't even realize she has powers! She's human! We get a glimpse of Emma concentrating to clothe herself, and a few light hearted touches in creating romantic scenes. . . but no instances of both of them controlling, working together, and balancing their magic. Well, besides their magic merging in bed, which really isn't a training session. Instead both instinctively know how to merge when they're in danger and it just happens. Chance. Fate. Touched by the Goddess.

And that was part of the synopsis: Ha'ven needs to unlock Emma's magic to save their love. I don't think there was ever a question of their love being saved - It was the most solid thing of their relationship. Now unlocking her powers is another matter and like I mentioned above, that was due to fate.

Emma's turn about from cowering victim and refusing to eat, to a week or two of getting to know Ha'ven, to finally speaking -- She developed a backbone but that whole believability thing around this was a bit much. She was so tramatized she wanted to die. Suicidal. That's serious. Someone that deep into depression doesn't just snap out of it because someone is interested in you. Sure love overcomes all but she practically fell into Ha'ven's bed.

Is it sad when I'm more interested in Crom's story?

I caught one typo with a lip being tip. Hard to kiss a tip. This was during Emma's 'courtship'.

I also had trouble understanding the explanation of Arrow. Here it is at 4%:

"He had sent his twin younger half-brothers, Adalard and Jazar, who everyone called Arrow because of his passion for archery, on missions that were supposed to ensure their safety. Instead, both had almost been killed by the assassins sent after them."

I later learn that Arrow is Jazar. Not both Adalard and Jazar, which is plural - Which is how the above explanation is given.

Then there was the repetition viewpoint where it was basically word for word of what was just said. I'd almost say my kindle pages got stuck together but we all know that doesn't happen.

Overall if you like hunky guys that are pretty well cookie cutter alpha males, overprotective and good in bed and a small lovely heroine that tells her mate she loves him every chance she gets, this one is the one for you. The story is told with a strong dose of good overcomes evil, love conquers all, fate can overcome all odds. There is a HEA and a lead in to the next in the series. No cliffhangers although a few of those barely touched on scenes do leave questions. - Dan's Wife

I really enjoyed the story but wished the writer would have stayed away from the stereotype of all men, apparently even alien men, want a blue-eyed blonde.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Not a keeper 1. Januar 2014

I always read all SE Smiths releases. This time I was left disappointed. The story could have been a great read, but I am left wanting. There is hardly any storyline at all.
At one point aprox half way through the story, it began to show more potential, but quickly turned too silly....too bad, but definitely not a keeper.
