This is simply a great book. Beautiful and very atmospheric pictures and a lot of information told in the good old-fashioned way of real story-telling. In fact, it's three books rolled in one: story-book, picture-book and even a sort of gazetteer/guidebook on account of the maps and how to find the locations. I personally would have wished for some more information and stories on certain locations, but I think it's still a must-have for all interested in hauntings and a great read for people who simply like good ghost stories.

I was fortunate enough to tour some of London's haunted sites with Richard Jones a few years ago and his first book, "Walking Haunted London," brought back enjoyable memories of that tour. His second book covers a wider area and includes stories of genuine hauntings from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Jones' style is crisp and readable and each tale is accompanied by atmospheric black-and-white photos. The author's fascination with ghosts (which he believes are mostly "place memories") is apparent. A coffee-table book that is likely to be well-thumbed.

I liked this book better than the Castles or Houses books of the same name. While there were some overlap of items, this book offered a much wider selection of stories and snapshots of places. Which is obvious from the fact that this book didn't focus on a specific thing like a castle or a house. This seemed to allow for much more variety of stories, which I enjoyed very much more than the previously 2 mentioned books.

This book is ok, it's not as good as Jones' other book, but it was still interesting none the less.. But definitely worth checking out is his book Haunted Houses of Britain and Ireland
