Ammon's job was simple, to care for the dragon eggs in the Nest. It should have been easy, but it wasn't. When the sun rose after the hatch, he had made an enemy of the most powerful man in the kingdom, and he would soon learn that was the least of his problems!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent Book 22. Oktober 2013

**This review may contain spoilers. You've been warned.**

I have to start of with this review by saying that I'm older than the target audience, even so, this book was still enjoyable for me. This story is very well written and engaging. The characters are believable and Ammon is a character you can really sympathize with as well as the situation he's been thrown into and you really want to see him make it through this ordeal that not many could handle like he has managed to do.

The bonds between dragons and their riders, while not completely unique, are very well written and leave no questions or gaps on how it works. The author's take on what type of dragons exist and what happens to dragons that don't fit that mold is quite interesting and it compels you to read through the book so you can learn more, as well as find out how that will affect Ammon and his dragon. His take on their sentient qualities are also interesting. These qualities start in the egg and they are willing to kill themselves in their shell so they won't bond with a person with a dark heart.

The only issue I had with this story was Ammon's political/arranged marriage to El. It wasn't the marriage itself that bothered me. It was more how El handled it. It could have been because it was so sudden, or because her grandmother had just died only moments before, or even the fact that she just didn't have a choice in the matter, but the way she acted just after the ceremony was so confusing. She did everything she could to keep her distance for an entire month and then after Ammon makes a choice to go to war she gets upset with him for wanting to leave her alone like she seemed to want. How she reacted and her thoughts throughout this time were just entirely confusing and I feel like it could have been done a little better.

I had to doc a star for formatting and spelling/grammatical errors since they were so prevalent, even if they didn't completely take away from the read. Had it not been for those I could say this book deserved a five star rating for being entertaining and a fairly easy read.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A good coming of age story 11. November 2013

Thoroughly loved the book. Yes, it's pretty much YA but like what the other reviewers, I'm way off the target audience but I still liked it.
It's your standard orphan boy coming of age story. Just like others of its ilk, boy-meets-dragon is pretty much how it starts. Most people would be turned off by it for the simple reason that the premise has been done to death since forever but I have no problems with it as long as it is done right.
What made it good for me is that the author was able to use such cliche materials and still present it in such a way that it doesn't get on your nerves. He not just shoving it down your metaphorical throat. He's giving the story to go on its own pace so you get to enjoy the development process more.
One other thing that I really enjoy is that the book doesn't suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder. Some authors like to pack so much character POVs in their novels that it's hard to follow the story or to identify with one character. Just when I'm enjoying reading from one view point, it then suddenly shifts to another character leaving me wanting to skip right through it so that I could go to my favorite character's part again. Some people like that but I find it irritating and frustrating.
All in all, it's a great read for everybody. You might get turned off because it seems like its primary for YA readers but if you enjoy classical high fantasy, you'll enjoy this.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Hatch is a great read! 26. Oktober 2013

I thought this an excellent read! The characters were well developed, their differing agendas were well blended into the story line, and the pacing kept you wanting to turn to the next page. As one of the other reviewers noted, I am definitely older than what I would think the target market to be, but the story totally engaged my imagination and kept me entertained throughout! I can't wait to see what this author offers next.

the character development was good. much of the book was predictable BUT there was enough that wasn't predictable to keep one reading. PLEASE all of you writers out there ....PROOFREAD your work!!!!! Nothing kills a GOOD story like missing words in sentences, wrong words used in sentences, and BAD grammar!!! Would have had five stars if not for the aforementioned items.
thanks fora good story. Looking forward to the next instalment.

3.0 von 5 Sternen A good story but rife with errors 17. Februar 2014

The publishing errors are numerous and many are egregious. They really ruin the reading experience. If I'd paid .99 I wouldn't be so upset, but for 5.00 the author should have provided his readers much better proofreading.

Story was cute, and I read to the end, but I won't be continuing on in the series.
