Kurzbeschreibung

Web designers and programmers, add JavaScript to your HTML5 development toolkit without fear

Modern websites are complex, and some of the most exciting features - things like geolocation, canvas, portability to mobile and more - require JavaScript to leverage what HTML5 can create. Don't know JavaScript? That's where HTML5 Programming with JavaScript For Dummies comes in. Rather than walking you through JavaScript as a programming language, it approaches JavaScript as a tool to help you enhance web pages.

  • Helps web designers and programmers tap the full power of HTML5 by leveraging JavaScript, even if they have no prior knowledge of JavaScript
  • Enables readers to produce modern websites with today's technology essentials: portability to mobile devices, animation, the use of Libraries, the Canvas component, and more
  • Emphasizes practical uses and offers many short examples for illustration

Discover basic to complex ways to use JavaScript programming syntax to harness the full power of HTML5 and CSS3.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Okay book - Great on some parts, not so great on others 13. Juni 2013
Von walrif Kamil - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
I'm learning JavaScript without much prior knowledge of computer programming or design - I've completed the JavaScript/HTML/CSS courses on Codecademy and was looking for a more thorough overview of how all the pieces fit together. I would recommend this book for HTML5, but probably another book for Javascript.

This first couple of chapters in the book was exactly what I was looking for - it has really great explanations of how JavaScript is actually used. Text editors? Difference in browsers? Web Hosting? Apache? It includes all the relevant "beginner" information that other resources don't really delve into, and it was extremely helpful in furthering my knowledge about the language and how it interacts with all different types of programs. I felt much more informed about JavaScript and programming, even though I didn't necessarily yet know how to "code."

In the Javascript section, the codes were not really properly explained and I was consistently confused. I do have a very simple understanding of JavaScript from Codecademy, so even though I didn't know exactly what was happening, I could piece the code together. After chapter 6, I realized I didn't know what I was doing anymore or why we were trying to do it. I was also using stackoverflow way more than I had anticipated. The biggest red flag to me was when I discovered that the language attribute for the script tag used throughout the book (<script language="JavaScript">) had been depreciated. I found this on a blog dating back to 2004. This was extremely disappointing as I thought this was a brand new release with the most up-to-date information, and if I didn't trust the script language used in the book, then it was difficult for me to gain confidence on other parts of the code.

The information gets better as it moves towards the HTML5 sections, and I've learned some really cool new ways of designing my web page using animation. The coding does end up utilizing jQuery more towards the end, so it was a great dive into jQuery as well.

2.0 von 5 Sternen NOT for Dummies 1. September 2013

Regardless the book's title and what the author says about the book, HTML5 Programming with JavaScript Is NOT For Dummies. It includes a lot of "what," but little to no "why." If you already know the fundamentals of JavaScript and want a refresher or to see what is new, then this book is for you. If you are trying to learn JavaScript from scratch, then this book is NOT for you.
