*This is a New Adult Romance and contains MA 17+ Content.

After Kylie’s dad dies in a freak accident, he leaves her with nothing other than her crazy stepmother, Darla, and the ability to play guitar. When Darla kicks Kylie out and she loses her job all in the same day, she hops a bus to Nashville determined to make her late father’s dreams come true.

Waitressing and saving her pennies to record a demo, her big break comes when she’s asked to join a tour going down the tubes with once platinum album-selling country music superstar Trace Corbin. But touring with Trace is hardly a dream come true since he’s pretty much drinking his career down the drain. If Kylie can’t pull Trace out of his rut, he’ll pull her and her dreams down with him.

"A refreshing heroine and a great story you'll hate to put down!" - Diane Alberts, Bestselling author of the Take A Chance series

"Kylie Ryans has the perfect mix of talent, strength, vulnerability, and chutzpah. An unputdownable read." -E.M. Tippetts, bestselling author of the Someone Else's Fairytale series

"Girl With Guitar gave me everything I could possibly want. A misunderstood hero. A feisty heroine. Amazing chemistry. Fun moments mixed with the steamy...Great lyrics provided the soundtrack to this country love story that made me laugh out loud, swoon, and even tear up. Can't ask for more than that!" -Rachel Harris, author of My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century

I liked the way Kylie Ryans was portrayed, even though sometimes she annoyed me a little. I, too, liked the way she went after the things she wants, even if it means what she wants is a drinking jerk...

And I have to say I loved that drinking jerk a lot! Trace and his family just is the sweetest thing.

Fast reading and nice story - definitely worth it for a sunday afternoon of doing nothing.

5.0 von 5 Sternen LOVED THIS BOOK! 26. Mai 2013
Von Laura Runyon - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I haven't written a review before, but this book left me feeling warm and fuzzy and I had to get my thoughts out there.

I've been in a real reading slump lately. It seems like I've been reading the same stories over and over again. You know the ones I mean: billionaire alpha males (kinky and unkinky); rock star/Hollywood drama; college angst (often involving love triangles); biker bad boys; tattooed bad boys, fighter bad boys... oh, and vampires (yummy). Don't get me wrong; I love them all. In fact, if you wrote about a tattooed vampire who rides his Harley to college with a guitar strapped on his back, well, count me in!

"Girl with Guitar" just did it for me. It's as simple and as complicated as that. The characters were well developed and multidimensional. The emotions were real and gritty. The dialogue was good. I loved the whole thing, even the parts that made me cry. Thank you, Caisey Quinn, for making me feel again.

This book played like a country love song. The one you want to play over and over, and sing along with because you love it so much. I loved the story, I adored the characters, and the music swept me off my feet. Not only was the love story sweet and unpredictable, but I felt for the characters. They had so many redeeming qualities, they were so easy to fall head over heels in love with.

Kaylie has recently lost her father who she was very close with, Her stepmother kicks her out. The eighteen year old decides to leave Oklahoma and head to Nashville. She's got nothing to lose so she decides to pursue her dream. She wants to save up some money and make a demo. One night she sings a song for some patrons at her waitressing job. Before she knows it she's asked to join a tour for Trace Corbin. Trace is hardly an angel and with his drinking and missed concerts he is walking a thin line. This is Kalie's big break and sh isn't going to let anyone ruin it for her. Trace may not care about his impending career, but Kalie sure does.

Kalie is a real courageous women. She followed her dreams and didn't take anything for granted. Trace on the other hand seemed to not care about anyone but himself. Even then he wasn't inclined to make great decisions. I loved seeing Kalie and Trace's relationship grow and mature through the book. There were times where they were so angry with each other, yet I could feel the heat rising between them. They both had the same fire inside of them that was so all consuming. I enjoyed every minute of this book. The country story was perfect, sweet, and rough around the edges. Just exactly what I wanted out of this story.

I expected an emotionally charged story. I got that and so much more. The characters weren't typical and actually blew me away with their love and honesty. This is definitely a read you will not want to miss. You will fall in love with it just like I did.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Nope, not for me 1. August 2013

This book has been blowing up my goodreads feed lately. Lots of people have been throwing glittery stars and puffy hearts at it, and I was intrigued. Because for some reason I am always intrigued by the plot lines on NA books. A small-town girl, recently orphaned, who heads to Nashville to follow her dream? She somehow gets noticed and brought on tour with a handsome older star, but they don't like eachother and the sparks fly? Yes, please.

Admittedly, I didn't go into this book expecting an epic read. I expected a fun guilty-pleasure book to pass some time in between heavier stuff. I wanted to spend some time in Nashville and experience what it would be like to work your way up the ladder in the music industry and finally get your big break. I wanted to know how a girl would feel if she went from being a struggling-waitress nobody to suddenly being the opening-act for last year's Country Music Artist of the Year, literally overnight. I wanted to see their relationship progress from hate to love and feel happy for them in the end. Maybe my expectations and wants were unreasonable.

What I got was a frustrating mish-mash of plot devices, a girl who started out strong and likable and wound up weak and co-dependent, a hero with a drinking problem who I didn't like or care about, inconsistent and unbelievable behavior from the main characters, and some really ridiculous WTF moments that made my suspension-of-disbelief switch short circuit.

I actually really liked the beginning of this book, especially the scenes set in the bar and her interactions with Tonya, the single working mom who helped her get the job. I liked the idea of her signing up months in advance to get a single shot at amateur night and having to re-work her song at the last minute and get someone to cover her tables so she could run up there and sing. But after that it just started going downhill. There was no fleshing out what happened between her big performance and her suddenly standing on stage as opening act for Trace Corbin. We are told she did this and did that, but didn't get to see any of it or experience it with her. It all felt very forced to me.

This book was all about her relationship with Trace, but that was a mystery to me as well. I had to wait half the book to find out Trace was 26... I honestly expected him to be a lot older with the way he was described. What exactly did he do or say, besides glare at her a few times and make her look like an idiot at her very first show, to cause her to suddenly develop feelings for him? Lust I could understand, but feelings strong enough that she would give up her goals, her promise to her father, and her self respect? I think this book just pushed one of my big `hell no' buttons: the one where a girl gives up who she is and everything she says she wants to get the guy, and then something silly happens that makes him doubt her and he treats her like crap, and then she winds up apologizing to him.

I'm actually not one to be overly feministic or do a cheer over girl-power, but during Kylie's speech to Trace on the bus, the one she gave after he said some really hateful things, I wanted to shake the girl and beg her to just. stop. talking. Where is your self-respect?? Please, shut up and walk out with some dignity! But she wouldn't listen to me and I was embarrassed for her.

In conclusion, I didn't like this book. I admit that I am stingy with my stars and maybe my expectations for this genre are too high... although I have read several new-adult books that I did really enjoy so I know its possible to write a somewhat believable smutty fluff read. The key to a good guilty-pleasure book is the suspension of disbelief. Did the author suck me into her world and make me like her characters and the story enough that I could forget the scenarios are far-fetched and stuff like that doesn't happen to normal people? Did she make me root for the characters? Did she keep the plot going without resorting to silly misunderstandings and immature behavior? For this book, for me personally, the answer is `no'.

I was torn between giving this 3 or 4 stars. It was written very well and the story flowed nicely. There were moments when I really liked Kylie. She spoke her mind and, for lack of better words, had balls. She definitly acted her age though. She was a little naive when it came to the business side of her career. I wasn't expecting Trace to be as old as he was at the beginning of the book but towards the end he acted less like a teenager with an attitude problem. One of the main problems I had with this book was almost every conversation was an argument between the two main characters. One day of good doesnt make up for a whole tour full of bad. Then he flips out on her for something that was really irrelevant besides the loss of some money and assumes the worst of her. Even with the frustrating parts, if you have some free time I would recommend you give this book a read. All-in-all its a decent book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fabulous 5 Star Debut Novel from Caisey Quinn 5. Juni 2013

A really great book friend read this book and raved so much about this book I had to move it to the top of my TBR list and so glad I did. From the moment I started this book I was hooked and could not put it down. And I still find it so hard to believe this is a debut novel for this author, her writing is just that good.

The book is written in 3rd POV, which I normally don't enjoy as much but after a few pages of getting used to it from 1st POV I was so hooked and could not put this book down. And let me state now one thing I truly loved about this book was the shorter chapters, found it very hard to stop reading and hate stopping in the middle of the chapter but loved how the chapters shorter and not long drawn out ones, was much easier to put down and then pick back up.

The story starts off with Kylie, an aspiring musician saying goodbye to her dad at his grave before she takes off to Nashville with only a few dollars to her name and her guitar to try to live her dream. She ends up waitressing at the bar she signed up for open mic night and after singing a Trace Corbin song she ends up singing a duet with Trace Corbin and at that moment her life changes....

~~~~She was from Oklahoma and she knew a thing or two about storm warnings. Trace Corbin was setting off all the sirens inside of her. Kylie was standing directly in the path of something wild and dangerous and a hello fo a lot more powerful than her. Look away, her subconsious screamed. But she couldn't, because for the first time since her daddy dies, she was alive ~~~~
Trace Corbin is a hot country singer trying to make a comeback but only throwing it all away for a bottle and Kylie has just been given the chance to join him on tour. From the moment they meet there is instant chemistry and I love the sexual tension that is going on between the two of them.
~~~~God, those eyes. Take cover, they said, because the storm was here, now. And Kylie wanted nothing more than to hurl herself right into it's path~~~~

I truly fell in love with both of these characters, they had me laughing, they had me crying (many times) and they even had me wanting to hurl my kindle across the room,and when all was said and done, at the end, they had me wanting more. Truly the sign of great writing and a great story to make you feel so many emotions and not wanting to see their story end, to want to keep living it right there with them because I felt so connected to them that when they hurt, OMG did I hurt. I cannot truly say enough about how much I loved this book and how much I enjoyed reading it, Outstanding Job Caisey Quinn, so can't wait for the continuation of their story and so can't wait to read so much more from you, you definitely found yourself a new great big fan of your work!

~~~~"And a day wont pass from here until who knows when that I won't wish that if that were true, I could relive that one day in Macon with you over and over again. maybe even more than I wish for my daddy back or to make the best country music album that I possibly can to honor his memory. He just wanted me to be happy, and for the first time since he died, I was" ~~~~
