Produktbeschreibungen

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-8-In this second book in the series, Soren and his band of owls have escaped the St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls and go in search of the mythical Great Ga'Hoole Tree. When they finally arrive at the tree, they find themselves in a Hogwarts-like school where owls are divided into "chaws," or small teams, that focus on particular skills such as navigation or search and rescue. By the end of the book, Soren has learned the fate of his lost sister, discovered that he has some unique powers, and has lost his new mentor, leaving things wide open for the next installment. The story flows nicely and has a certain appeal that carries readers along, despite the sometimes-jarring addition of unnecessary owl poetry. Lasky's fully realized world is full of traditions based on the actual habits of owls, but this is still a world in which owls can read and write. Fantasy readers will enjoy the adventure, but the book will appeal mainly to fans of the first volume in the series.

Pressestimmen

"The rescue of Soren's deeply troubled younger sister caps a book hallmarked by adventure, mystery, and some pretty terrible poetry put forward as owl songs. The world building is excellent, with a few intriguing hints that it might take place on a post-Holocaust Earth, and the characterization is solid. The owls are unique and complex, with conflicting feelings and just the right mix of seriousness and fun." VOYA

Read this series if you are interested in 'going on an adventure'. It's certainly very imaginative, and fun to go through, but occasionally, it stated wrong facts. In other words, it may not be the best book for you if you are trying to find one that is fantasy, yet very educational.
I started it because I'm a total bird fan and wanted to read a story that is enjoyable and contains some accurate information on birds. (Of course, I wasn't expecting it to be like a non-fiction book, because 'The Journey' is a fantasy story.) The first book was good, and it gripped me straight away. However, when I got onto the second, which is 'The Journey', (I read a translated version, but I think it was translated fairly well.), I was distrubed by some inaccuracies. Firstly, crows (I like crows, raven etc. a lot.) were said to be simple minded birds, but of course, everyone who has some knowledge on birds know that they are some of the most intellegent ones. Also, on one page, I noticed a mention of an owl character having teeth. (Birds don't have teeth, and I really hope that was a translation error.)The story itself was fairly good, but unfortunatly inferior in many ways to other, similar novels such as 'Ratha's Creature'. (It's, in my point of view, the best book of its kind, better than the Warrior series but somehow not popular.)The third book of the series, which I began soon after reading 'The Journey', also contained a minor inaccuracy. It said seagulls never 'yarp' (vomit out) pellets at all, which is not true.
The rating I gave above is only my opinion (I was very annoyed by the fact crows were written as rather dull birds, but it's just me.). Try the book, perhaps you'll like it :)

A great follow-up to The Capture 6. Oktober 2003
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
In the second book in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series, the story of Soren and the gang continues. I had been waiting since the release of The Capture to find out what happens; The Journey does not disappoint. The band of owls leave St. Aggie's behind to find new adventures, and encounters scores of new creatures. Once again, the author introduces us to fascinating species of owls and other birds. The descriptions of flying are terrific--you can almost feel the wind in your hair. Now, if only the next book in the series will come out sooner...

The best sequel ever 18. November 2003

I decided to read The Journey because I read the prequel, The Capture. I like this book because it really shows how the owls interact. It's like the owls are real people that talk, walk, and have fun with each other. There are no people in this book. Just owls, snakes, and other birds, but it's really just an owl book. This second book still has Soren, Gylfie, Twilight, Digger, and a lot of other new characters. They make friends, and learn a lot of new skills at the Great Ga'Hoole tree.
At the end of The Capture, the four owls are a band to never split up and make it their quest to find the Great Ga'Hoole tree. Their journey to find the tree is exciting. About way into the book, the king and queen of Hoole find them, and lead them to the tree. When the four owls reach the tree, they learn about different chaws, which are different groups that you are selected into to preform certain deeds to help the world. Even Mrs. P, the blind snake, was back to doing what she longed to do, being a nest maid snake. The four owls soon find out that it's almost guarenteed that they won't be selected for the same chaw. While Soren is living his liufe at the Great Ga'Hoole tree, his thoughts of his sister, Eglantine, worry him. Was she captured by St. Aggies? Is she all right?
I truly recommend this book to anyone who has read The Capture. If you haven't read The Journey, but read The Capture, your mind must be going crazy to read the second book. It's really that good. It takes off exactly where The Capture ended. If you haven't read the first book in a little while, don't worry. The Journey reviews a lot. It's your choice. Do you want to find out about Eglantine? What's life like at the Great Ga'Hoole tree? Read The Journey, by Kathryn Lasky to find out.

I can't stop reading this series 12. Januar 2004
Kinder-Rezension - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I liked this book because it was very interesting and had a great plot. What made this story terrific were the characters. Soren, Gylfie, Twilight, and Digger were amazing. They fight of enemies rescue owlets and everything else owls do. The four main characters really made this story awesome. My favorite part of the book is when Soren flies into a forest fire to retrieve coals for the great Ga'hoole tree. That's just one of the great parts. I can't wait to read the third book of this series.

This book is about a band of owls that are sent out to find the great Ga'hoole tree because they lost their families. At the Ga'hoole tree owls go out each night to perform noble deeds. When they arrive they are given their own hollow. Soon they will be put into chaws. A chaw is a group of owls who perform noble deeds like the search and rescue chaw. A weird thing happens to this search and rescue chaw, injured owlets start popping out of nowhere. They happen to come upon a strange owl that looks just like Soren. The owl is Soren's sister, Eglantine. When that is done one of the owls is missing, Ezylryb, Soren teacher wasn't there. Soren and his sister are sent out to find him.

People who like adventure and a little fantasy should read this book for sure.Teenager should also read this book because there are some hard words.
