This book doesn't promote the idea that saturated fat is bad. It argues that eating three times the daily allotment of saturated fat in one meal is bad. This is an argument against the restaurant industry's ridiculous fat, sodium, calorie, and sugar-laden offerings labeled as "grilled" to fool us into thinking that we are making a healthier menu option. The recipes included illustrate that, just by cooking at home, we can cut down the unhealthy factor significantly. This isn't a fad diet book that promises extreme weight loss by limiting one food group (carbs); it follows the leading nutrition principle of healthy moderation.

I own another book in this series, "Cook This, Not That," and have really enjoyed the recipes in it. When you feel like going out for some fast food, take a look in one of these books, and you will certainly decide to stay in, have a healthier and more economical (and better) meal. The recipe called "The Ultimate Burger" in that book is one I like a lot. So with that background, I came to this one in the same series, "Grill This, Not That." If anything, I like it even better.

There are great recipes for the grill, but there are so many other features that make this book useful and unique. For example, there are comparisons between various store-bought foods and condiments, such as hot dog buns, barbeque sauce, mayonnaise, etc. There are calorie, carb, and sodium comparisons, but the most important comparison is the taste. I find it saves so much time not to have to do these comparisons myself, and it also points out products I may not have tried. The recipes in the book go even farther though: you can make your own barbeque sauce from the recipe in this book easily from ingredients you already have on hand, and it tastes fantastic. I also like the charts that show various cuts of meat and compare their fat and calories.

For each recipe, there is usually a box on the same page that tells how to adapt the sauce or the method in order to use it for vegetables, fish, chicken, etc. That means you are able to learn a method, not just make one recipe. That's a great feature of this series of cookbooks. The strip steaks with blue cheese butter, and the steak-and-potato skewers are two recipes I enjoyed already, and there are many fish and vegetable recipes I intend to try. For anyone who feels in a rut with grilling, this books will definitely expand your horizons.

I recommend this book highly, and it's great for any type of grill. Many times cookbooks for grilling don't take account of charcoal cooking very much, but this one has advice for all sorts of grills. It's a real find; I don't think it could disappoint anyone!

I LOVE this book. The book has 11 chapters spanning everything from backyard basics to recipes for every meal (even dessert!). I've already made the Carolina Pulled Pork recipe twice. The pork just melts in your mouth. Plus this book taught me that you can barbecue cake (CAKE!). (It's awesome--I'd try it!)

The real selling point is the nutritional information and how the authors always record the calorie information for each recipe.

The recipes in this book are worth the purchase alone, especially with all the great sauce/marinade pages. To top it off, the book goes over some basic grill types, tools and things along those lines.

In addition to all that, it has a great run through of restaurant meals that could kill a horse with the amount of sodium and (usually) calories, not to mention sugars, fat and all the other good stuff. Another nice addition is a grilling buying section that reviews some good options for hot dogs, other grilling meats, marinades and spices.

All in all, a great little book that stands on its own next to my other grilling books.

This book is great! My family loves to grill out, but by August, we're always sick of the same old things. This has more than enough recipes to last the whole summer. I love that it feels more like a cookbook than a diet book, and my kids have liked everything I've made from it so far--especially the pizza! If you own a grill, do yourself a favor and buy this book!
