I purchased this book (and two more) after attending a presentation by Mr. Johnson at Jesse Brown's Outdoor Center in Charlotte, NC. I walked in hoping I would get just one idea of a hike I could take. I have MS and so at times my options are limited. Instead I found BOOKS of ideas!
The Best Easy Day Hikes for the Great Smoky Mountains opened (out)doors for me again. These hikes are doable on not so good days and a good leg stretcher on a good day when time is limited.
Mr. Johnson has provided precise details about each hike and what I call 'don't miss' observations that are wonderful to have!
Speaking of don't miss...Don't miss any of his other Falcon Guides including the 'big' books...Hiking North Carolina, 2nd: A Guide to Nearly 500 of North Carolina's Greatest Hiking Trails (State Hiking Series) and Hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway, 2nd: The Ultimate Travel Guide to America's Most Popular Scenic Roadway (Hiking Guide Series). He also has Best Easy Day Hikes Blue Ridge Parkway, 2nd but as he kindly pointed out during his presentation...all of the Easy Hikes are in the 'big' books too, plus so much more.
