A Limited Option amongst limited options

The first thing you might notice about this book is that is from "the authors of Wikipedia." I did not. I didn't notice this until I had the book in hand. Let us assume this did nothing for my opinion of what was contained therein and on the count of being disappointing, this book did not disappointing. That is to say, it was, indeed, disappointing.
The contents of the book seem haphazardly organized, which must be a symptom of Wikipedia authorship. For instance: Though the protagonist of Kings Quest IV appears on the cover of the book, there is no section of the book dedicated to KQIV! Also, though mentioned several times in the book, Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist also fails to make an appearance. Also, some games have extensive multi-page coverage with screen shots and interviews with people involved in the production, other games are limited to less than a page of cursory mention.
The screen shots contained within are exclusively in black and white and are sometimes oddly culled from non-English versions of the games, for some odd reason.
The most glaring issue though is the poor writing and blatant spelling errors contained throughout. These aren't even cases of miss-used spellings (i.e. your vs you're), which i would forgive, but just totally misspelled words that any spell-check should catch, which is why I find their inclusion odd.
As it turns out that this is just a culling of articles from Wikipedia, I would have to recommend that potential buyers think twice before purchasing. Though there are a few interviews in the book, they all seem collected from various other sources on the net. Spend a few hours surfing Wikipedia instead, and allocate the saved cash on a Adventure Game collection pack on GOG or Steam.

This is a good book with interesting stories behind some of the best known early adventure games. It's a great read if you are into early graphic adventures, I do wish they would have gone into even more detail at times but overall a very fun and memory inducing read.
