Gillian Flynn wuchs in Kansas City, Missouri, auf. Nach College und Universitäts-Studium in Kansas und Chicago zog es sie nach Kalifornien, anschließend nach New York. Sie war zehn Jahre lang die leitende TV-Kritikerin von >Entertainment Weekly<. Im Jahre 2006 erschien ihr erster Roman >Cry Baby<, mit dem sie großes Aufsehen erregte. Das Buch erhielt gleich zwei >British Dagger Awards<. Ihr zweiter Roman >Finstere Orte< erschien 2009 und wurde ebenfalls ein riesiger Erfolg. Im Juli 2012 erschien ihr dritter Roman >Gone Girl< und löste ein riesiges Medienspektakel aus. Das Buch stand monatelang auf Platz 1 der New York Times-Bestsellerliste und wurde mehr als 3 Millionen mal verkauft. Alle drei Bücher werden verfilmt und demnächst im Kino zu sehen sein. Die Autorin lebt mit ihrer Familie in Chicago.

Gone Girl" von Gillian Flynn wird mir als ein Thriller erster Güte lange in Erinnerung bleiben. Es war das erste Buch, das ich von dieser Autorin gelesen habe, aber bestimmt nicht das letzte. Es ist die Geschichte einer konventionellen Ehe, die sich äußerst ungewöhnlich entwickelt. Im ersten Teil des Buches wird Nick Dunne mit dem Verschwinden seiner Ehefrau Amy konfrontiert und mit dem einhergehenden Verdacht der Polizei, er habe mit diesem Verbrechen mehr zu tun, als er zugibt. Jedes Mal, wenn der Leser glaubt, dass es für Nick nicht schlimmer kommen kann, wird noch einmal richtig nachgelegt. Immer wieder tauchen Beweise auf, die Nicks vermeintliche Schuld zementieren.So kommt es dann, dass der Leser Nick, der nicht zu den sympathischen Protagonisten zu zählen ist, trotzdem die Daumen drückt, dass dieser Alptraum einen guten Ausgang nehmen möge.
Über den zweiten Teil und den kurzen dritten, der als ein Epilog zu sehen ist, gehe ich inhaltlich nicht näher ein, um die Spannung nicht zu nehmen, denn eins steht fest: Je weniger man über dieses Buch weiß, um so unmittelbarer ist die Wirkung. Gillian Flynn schickt den Leser auf eine Achterbahnfahrt der getäuschten Erwartungen und Gefühle, wie ich sie in dieser Form noch nicht oft erlebt habe: Die Geschichte wird sprachlich gelungen schnell und mit vielen Überraschungen erzählt. Hinzu kommt, dass Nick und seine Frau Amy ungemein glaubwürdig dargestellt werden; Der Leser erfährt genug aus ihrer Jugend, um sich vorstellen zu können, warum sie welche charakterlichen Eigenheiten (vorsichtig formuliert) erworben haben.

Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Nachdem ich schon seit vielen Monaten dieses Buch vorgeschlagen bekommen habe, habe ich nun endlich zugeschlagen. Zur Story muss ich ja nicht mehr viel erzählen, deshalb hier meine Gedanken zum Inhalt und zur Form:

Ich habe eigentlich einen Thriller erwartet und messe Bücher sehr oft daran, wie schnell man "gepackt" wird und es nicht mehr weglegen kann. Das hat bei diesem Buch wirklich lange gedauert. Das erste Viertel des Buches ist *relativ* langweilig und besteht aus Vorgeplänkel bzw. Charakterisierungen der Protagonisten. Es geht sehr viel um Beziehungen zwischen Mann und Frau im Generellen und Besonderen. Das regt zum Nachdenken und auch zum Schmunzeln an, aber ist nicht das, was man (ich?) in so einem Buch erwartet.

Dann aber geht es los: Tröpfchenweise kommen immer mehr Details über die Hauptpersonen ans Licht. Bei den ersten Details hoben sich meine Augenbrauen, aber je mehr dazu kam, umso krasser wurden die Bilder der Charaktere. An bestimmten Stellen dachte ich dann nur noch "Ach Du Scheiße!" - genau wie ich es in einem guten Thriller erwarte!

Wenn man an dieser Stelle angekommen ist, versteht man auch das Vorgeplänkel und die eingehenden Charakterdarstellungen. Dadurch gewinnt das Buch aber an unglaublicher Tiefe und wird enorm spannend.

Kleine Abzüge gibt es indes für minimale Schwächen in der Logik und manche Aktionen der Hauptdarstellerin klingen etwas übertrieben, aber nicht zuletzt lebt die Story auch davon.

Kurzum: Wer einen bitterbösen und tiefschwarzen Beziehungsthriller sucht, ist hier bestens beraten. Wer gerade selber in einer Beziehungskrise steckt, sollte die Finger davon lassen - er könnte auf falsche Gedanken kommen! ;-)

Format: Taschenbuch
Die Autorin lotet das ewige Spannungsfeld zwischen Mann und Frau sehr geschickt aus und konstruiert aus den jeweils typischen Erwartungen und Verhaltensweisen einen Handlungsablauf, der nach und nach eine fatale Zwangsläufigkeit entwickelt. Erzählt wird aus der Ich-Perspektive, wobei die weibliche Hauptfigur (Amy) und die männliche (Nick) abwechselnd zu Wort kommen und der Leser so immer umfassender ins Bild gesetzt und durchaus direkt angesprochen wird. Natürlich geschehen böse Dinge, dennoch entspricht dieser Roman nicht der landläufigen Vorstellung von einem Thriller, bei dem man als Leser zittert und spekuliert, wie alles zusammenhängt. Das Ende ist, nach gut 550 Seiten Erwartungsaufbau, zwar logisch-schlüssig, aber ohne den thrillertypischen Knalleffekt. Das "Puh!", mit dem man sonst ein spannendes Buch aus der Hand legt, bleibt hier wohl aus. Lesenswert und unterhaltsam ist dieses Werk aber allemal.

Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
Vorweg: Hätte das Buch nur aus der zweiten Hälfte bestanden, hätte ich fünf Sterne vergeben.

Das Buch ist in drei Teile aufgeteilt, 1. Boy Loses Girl, 2. Boy Meets Girl und 3. Boy Gets Girl Back (or vice versa), wovon die ersten beiden Teile relativ gleichmäßig lang sind und insgesamt ca. 490 Seiten ausmachen. Die Kapitel werden abwechselnd aus Amys und Nicks Sicht erzählt. Der erste Teil zeichnet sich hierbei dadurch aus, dass Amys Beiträge Rückblenden aus ihrem Tagebuch, seit sie Nick kennengelernt hat, sind und Amy erst im zweiten Teil zum Tag ihres Verschwindens kommt, während Nicks erstes Kapitel bereits der Tag ihres Verschwindens ist, d.h. Amys erzählte Zeit ist wesentlich länger als seine. Die Ordnung der beiden Erzählstränge ist jedoch streng chronologisch und irgendwann hat Amys Erzählung Nicks eingeholt, weshalb der weitere Verlauf noch spannender wird.
Zum ersten Teil: Ich bin froh, dass ich durchgehalten habe, aber ich fand die Geschichte so langweilig, dass ich das Buch am liebsten aus der Hand gelegt hätte. Zum Schluss steigerte sich die Spannung langsam immer ein kleines bisschen mehr, vor allem durch die Schatzsuche, aber den Großteil fand ich nur lahm. Nick war mir unsympathisch (was durch seine Affäre mit einer seiner Studentinnen nicht eben besser wurde), die Tagebuch-Amy war mir auch unsympathisch, ihre auftauchenden Eltern ebenso und die Sprache war mir zu vulgär. Nur Go, Nicks Schwester, fand ich einigermaßen sympathisch.
Zum zweiten Teil: Hier tritt das erste Mal die echte Amy als Parade-Psychopathin in Erscheinung und erzählt die wahre Geschichte, die so ziemlich das Gegenteil ihres Tagebuch-Ichs ist.
