Produktbeschreibungen

Set in the dystopian future of the popular board game Android, Golem, the first novel in The Identity Trilogy, delves into the world of science fiction and noir, and examines what it means to be both a bioroid and a good person.

When a talented New Angeles Detective wakes up in bed with a woman whose name he can't recall, this seemingly harmless mystery indicates a much larger problem. After all, as one of the few bioroids in the New Angeles Police Department, Drake 3G12RC isn't accustomed to forgetting...or even sleeping. But his personal issues are forced to wait when he and his human partner Shelly Nolan are assigned a high profile murder investigation–one that will change his world.

The wealthy CEO of IdentiKit, a successful android manufacturer, has been found dead in his hotel room. Now, what begins as just another murder in downtown New Angeles will quickly escalate into a tangled web of intrigue, love, and betrayal, as Drake and his partner work to solve this brutal crime before the killer strikes again. Drake’s investigation will lead him through the darkest corners of a conspiracy that reaches up the Beanstalk and out to the bustling industry of Mars… then right back to the woman of his dreams.

Mel Odom is the author of over 140 science fiction and fantasy works, and the bestselling author of Stalker Analog and Lethal Interface. He also penned the Alex Award-winning series The Rover, and has written for numerous tie-in lines such as Forgotten Realms, Hellgate: London, and Shadowrun.

Mel Odom was born to write fiction. The book is thryllingly exciting and one of the best dystopian fiction books of the last years. Once the story enfolds one cannot stop reading until the end. Clear recomendations to this one!

... I feel reminded of Isaac Asimov, the shadow run universe and AI. I have not finished the book yet fully, but I feel like recommending it already, keep your fingers crossed there will be no drastic turnaround in experience.

And again after having found such a great book, I ask myself where to find the next one.

Excellent Take on the Android Setting 18. Januar 2013

This book is one of the best licensed property works I have ever read. Change the people and place names, and you would still have an engrossing plot and deep characters that would stand on their own.

I have this and "Freefall", the only other Android book released at the time, and this novel stands far above the other one, despite the other author's standing as a Best Selling Author.

If you enjoy a cyberpunk/Blade runner type setting along with deep plot, you will enjoy this book!

This is new scifi! An AI detective. 10. Juni 2013

Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I enjoy good science fiction. I think this book approaches great. Why? It plays fair. It creates a vivid vision of the far future and then never fails to operate within that reality. It made me think about AI-based sentience, human AI partnerships, bigotry, the three main directives, corporate hegemony, pleasure androids, hovercraft, etc.

Mel Odom created an ultra-authentic android Drake that had to follow Asimov's three directives. Drake was consistent in all his (I should probably use "its") actions. He lacked human emotions even to the point of irritating me at times. But who said that sentient androids, lacking human emotions, wouldn't irritate us human observers? Mel risked making Drake unrelateable. But the risk paid off. Instead I feel like I've glimpsed what it's like to interact with an android and I found it fascinating!

The story is engrossing and mysterious. Events unfold on Earth, the moon, and Mars. I never felt like Mel was hitting me over the head with clues. On the contrary, there are more questions than answers. I'm hooked and I'll be purchasing the next installment.

If you're wanting a point of reference to determine if my opinion of good writing is compatible with yours - I'll gladly share my favorite author. Patrick Rothfuss! True he is a fantasy writer. If you haven't read him yet, I envy your future discovery.

A must read! 29. Januar 2013

This was an absolute delight. The book is fast paced. I finished it in two days and just purchased and finished the second book in the series. I am a big fan of Android Netrunner the Living Card Game and love the Android Universe. A not so terribly dark but fragile future. It really does feel like a living breathing Universe. If you are unfamiliar with the game/ universe, don't worry because it is very familiar to Asimov's created Universes involving robots and other cyberpunk future's (Except not so dark). If you are a fan of Blade runner, Total Recall or I Robot then you will feel right at home in the Universe. I have not read much crime/ mystery novels before and was happy it was such an easy read. The book is surprisingly clean too! Which is a big bonus to me and a little bit of a rarity in this sort of Universe. Read the sample if it interests you at all.

Odem builds his main character (bioroid) into a lovable character. His progression as a character is so fun to watch develop. I really like the mystery surrounding his development.

The first book's setting is on the Earth, the second the Moon, and the final book will be on Mars. It is really cool to have a series which have different locations like this. You can feel the tensions really building between the three.

Through the first and second books the plot continues to thicken and unravel making Drake's life and flashbacks at the center of a much larger conspiracy. I am really excited for book three!

Good for Sci Fi fans, great for Android fans 27. Oktober 2013
Von Michael J. Amos - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Golem is an interesting story set in Fantasy Flight's Android universe. It follows Drake a Bioroid (like and android) cop as he deals with discrimination in his department for being one of the few bioroids outside of the menial service industry and one only two in the police force. He and his partner work murder cases and stumble upon a case bigger than either of them could anticipate and possibly too big to handle.

The story moves well and is interesting to follow. It's easy to get into the mindset of Drake, seeing things in a very non-human way. For me, as someone familiar with the Android universe, it's fun to see the names and places pop up that you already know if you'd played Android or Android: Netrunner.

There is one odd thing about the story, it didn't hurt my enjoyment but some people may find it off putting. The story very much tries to present itself as a Detective Noir novel when it's more of an adventure novel. It hits the beats of an unknown lady coming to him for help, a cop who is disconnected from the world and so on but noirs resolve in a pretty specific way and you shouldn't expect that here.

I enjoyed Golem. If you like Android, you really should read this. If you like Sci Fi I'd still recommend that you give this a read.

good read 13. Januar 2014

This was a good book. As part of the trilogy I understand why doesn't have the most satisfying ending in the world. It wasn't some mind blowing, but it was most definitely entertaining and a great read.

I felt like there were a lots of well-done clichés in the book. There were definitely things that are quite common in the genre, but the author seems to have approached the subject in a unique enough way to make it interesting.

Overall a well done book that makes me want to read the other installments in the trilogy.
