The allure of James Bond was best described by Raymond Chandler, who insisted that 007 is "what every man would like to be and what every woman would like to have between her sheets." Who can argue with that? This month marks the 40th anniversary of the film release of Dr. No, which was the first Bond adventure to make the big screen, and two big coffee-table books are being published to honor the occasion (LJ 10/1/02, p. 96). Shockingly, Fleming's original novels have gone out of print, but Penguin here reproduces a trio of the British secret agent's early outings, released in 1952, 1958, and 1959, respectively, sporting stylish cover art. These stories were racy for the nifty Fifties but are quite tame by today's standards. Still, they can be fun.

Eine nette Abwechslung zu den allseits bekannten 007-Filmen. Wer weiss schon, dass Flemings Bond gar kein solch selbstbewusster Weiberheld ist?

Often there are some differents between the novel and the book. In the case of "Goldfinger" it's the same. Only James Bond's new oppenent, a goliath of a cheater and evil enemy, is the one like in the film. He is about to do the "crime de la crime". The greatest gold robbery in the world and the killing of over 60.000 people is the deadly plan of the agent of SMERSH, Auric Goldfinger.
Bond ist the only one who can stop the fatal plan, but with the time he sees that Goldfinger is more than he thought. The great genius is one of Bond's greatest and deadliest enemies, but soon Goldfinger will recognize, that he's not the only great genius in the world.
