Kurzbeschreibung

5. März 2009
Do you want to learn how to create computer war games, but don't know how to get started or don't have any experience with game programming? Going to War: Creating Computer War Games shows you how to use the drag-and-drop game engine, Multimedia Fusion 2, to make your very own computer war games to play and share. After an introduction to the Multimedia Fusion 2 interface and the basics of how to use it, you'll get started on the game that you'll create throughout the course of the book. You'll begin by making your game map, using a system of hexagon tiles to create the terrain and the different units you want to include in your game such as soldiers and tanks. Then you'll learn how to set rules for player movement, different types of terrain, and combat. You'll even find more advanced techniques such as how to implement officers, fortifications, and even a simple monetary system in your games. The book even discusses how to track and find bugs in your games and how to create an editor that allows you to easily apply data you've already created to new games. Everything you need to build your own war games is included with the book, and by the time you've worked your way through it you'll have designed your very own working and playable war game.Learn how to create your very own wargames, games that simulate or represent military operations. This book shows readers everything they need to know to create wargames on the PC using the drag-and-drop game engine Multimedia Fusion 2. No previous game creation or programming experience is necessary and when they finish the book, readers will have all the tools they need to create their own wargames. Coverage includes the history of wargames, how to design a wargame, movement, terrain and weather effects, attack and defense, and more.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Going to War 5. April 2009
Von Michael Rugenus - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I've been using Multimedia Fusion for a few years now and one thing I always wanted to do was make my own war game. I used to love playing war board games when I was younger. But when making a war game there is so much to consider. How to create maps, troop movement, enemy AI, combat and the list goes on. This book covers all of that and so much more.
Jason Darby's book begins with a brief history of war gaming and then a tutorial on using Multimedia Fusion (the demo version is included). Then starting with map creation he takes you step by step through the process of creating a war game. All the files you need are included on the accompanying cd. Jason also covers such topics as terrain and weather effects, morale and using money. At over 400 pages this book contains a wealth of information
Going to War can be used to make all types of war games from ancient warfare to science fiction without the need of learning a programming language like C++. If this is something your interested in then do yourself a favor and buy this book. I'm glad I did.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Going To War 4. April 2009
Von Lise E. Hull - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Going To War is the latest in a series of books by Jason Darby using Click Team products. It is also the best. The author goes to great lengths in introducing Multimedia Fusion 2 and War Gaming. The history of War Gaming is described in detail and included with the book is a CD that includes a trial period for Multimedia Fusion 2, example files, tiles, and sounds.

Jason Darby uses easy to understand, down to earth language when describing the coding you will need to make your war game a reality. Each chapter is illustrated with screen shots, side bars, and event guides. This is the best 400-page book that I have ever used for Multimedia Fusion 2.

This book is everything it is supposed to be. It is well written with clear instructions.
The examples on the accompanying CD are very helpful also.
I recommend this book for anyone who is programming in Multimedia Fusion.
