Über den Autor
Louise Hill, (Louise Clara Heirich), was born in 1913, the tenth child of German immigrant parents. She grew up in McAlester, Oklahoma. At an early age she listened to a house guest describe Christian Missionary work in China and felt a personal call to follow someday. Louise earned a BA degree from Oklahoma Baptist University where she met her husband, Eugene Hill. She also studied for a year at Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. The Hills were sent as Baptist missionaries to Canton, China, in 1935. After a year of intensive language study in Cantonese, Louise taught Bible, New Testament, Music, and English classes at the Mission. She also taught Sunday School, led Youth Fellowship, and played the piano for services at Tung Shan Baptist Church in Canton. In Singapore she continued her service in Baptist churches. She home-schooled their son, John, and nursed Eugene through several severe illnesses. Upon their return to the United States, Louise was active in her local Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, working with the Women's Missionary Union (WMU), and rearing their son during her husband's long absences overseas. She and her husband were instrumental in the founding of the Chinese Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia in 1980. At the age of 91, now on her own, she continues to be an inspiration for her unwavering dedication to the Chinese community she still serves.
