Life lessons? Romance? Literary instruction? Go, Dog. Go! offers all this and more, wrapped up in one simply worded, warmly hued package. Using single-syllable words in rhythmic repetition, and introducing colors and prepositions, this Seuss-styled classic has been an early favorite of children since 1961. For those looking for deeper meaning in a beginning reader book, here you'll find nothing less than a microcosm of life. Green dogs, yellow dogs, big dogs, little dogs. Dogs who prefer cars, dogs who favor skis. All represent the diversity a child will find in the world. And the slow-to-bud romance between the cheerfully oblivious yellow dog and the mincing pink poodle explains more succinctly than most self-help books what goes on in many grown-up relationships. Nonetheless, Eastman takes the concept of "primary" to heart, with his simple silly phrases and solidly colored illustrations. Not only will this book inspire peals of laughter in kids, it will also help them make the magical connection between those mysterious black squiggles on the page, and the words they hear and speak. (Ages 4 to 8)

This is a terrible adapation of the orignal Go Dog Go. When adapting it for a board book format, the editors lost most of the fun in the original language. Many of the pictures don't make sense with the new words, and you'll wonder how this ever could have been a "classic" Buy the original. It's only a few dollars more, and well worth the price and the risk of a few ripped pages.

I was well into my 30s before I realized that this was not aDr. Seuss books. Given that it's issued in the same size and binding,I'd always assumed it was written by Seuss. My realization that it was written and illustrated by P.D. Eastman cleared one of my largest childhood confusions: I *loved* Go Dog Do, and merely *liked* The Cat in the Hat.
Years later I realize that Eastman's art is funny, while Seuss's is fantastic, and I prefer the former to the latter. As another reviewer mentioned, you can stare at these dogs for a long, long time. There's an incredible depth to their expressions and postures - especially surprising given the seemingly simple illustrations. (And yes, the insomniac dog who sleeps through the next morning's revile is one of my favorites, too. But so are the dogs having a party on a boat!)
The repetitive narration is similarly hypnotic, and you'll quickly find some of the expressions creeping into your every day dialog.
All in all, my very favorite childhood book, and one of the few that I still re-read a few times a year. END

This little board book is perfect in size and shape for toddlers on the go. We use it (along with other Bright & Early Board Books) for our 2 year old when we travel, go to grandma's house or to a resturant. After several readings, our son delighted in telling us the story in his own words. It's the perfect length that young children can both comprehend and remember the whole story. The illustrations are simple enough for a small child, yet detailed enough to give our two year old something to study. Our copy is well used.

Go,Dog,Go is P.D. Eastman's colorful tale about travel by land, sea, and air. Using animated dogs of green, blue, yellow, and red, the story is a page by page, Seuss-like poetry that reads with sing-song language and bold illustrations. Toddlers will have the book memorized in an hour, but the tale is timeless and the language is vibrant enough to keep them coming back for more. Go, Dog, Go is destined to be a classic favorite on your child's bookshelf!

I loved this book as a kid and love reading it to my kids. Plus now it's in a board book edition-can't get much better than that for your book-eating litle monsters! It's an easy read, with lots of rhyme and fun illustrations. And each time the girl dog and boy dog meet up ("Do you like my hat?" "I do not") the kids get a good laugh out of their good-byes.

I love the original version of Go, Dog. Go! This is not the same thing: my wife bought this board book thinking it would be as delightful as the original, but as soon as you open it you'll realize that the story is completely gone, the characters are gone, the excitement and wonder is gone. All that are left are some pictures and disjointed prose that fail to impress.
I first read this book about 40 years ago; it has made an indelible impression on me. I started reading GDG (the original version) to my son when he was a few months old--he loved it. I tried reading the board version (this edition) to him about the same time--he and I both hated it.
Stick with the original; don't bother with this one.

We may have to purchase a second copy of this board book for our next baby--our 15-month-old son has just about worn this first copy out. We average reading this fun book at least three times a day, not to mention all the times I catch my son sitting alone and "reading" the book to himself and laughing out loud. We really like to animate the story, making a big deal about the "dog party" at the end of the book. The sheer delight on our son's face simply mirrors our own with this fun romp.

My soon-to-be two year old son Jackson has a prized collection of books, in which the pages of P.D. Eastman's Go,Dog Go! are worn, wrinkled, and stained with fruit juice. In places, they are even torn. This is a good thing. The first time we sat down together in the rocking chair to read it, at least a year ago now, Go, Dog Go! charmed child and mother alike from beginning to end. I knew then that this book, with its simplicity and original, appealing characters, would join the ranks of the constantly-read, which reside apart from the rest in his library. These select few sit next to the lamp on his nightstand; you cannot keep them on the bookshelf, so why bother to try? From the different sizes, colors, shapes and locations of the dogs, to the reappearing and increasingly complex matter of the hat, Go, Dog Go! delights Jackson each and every time. It is mandatory bedtime reading (according to him). It goes with us in the car to the sitter's house, the doctor's office, and on road trips. Like Dr. Seuss and Beatrix Potter, Eastman possesses the creative ability to stimulate, entrance, and comfort even the youngest of readers with colorful language, rhyme, and winsome animals all children can relate to. Go, Dog Go! is educational, medicinal, and functional dressed up as just plain fun, and that, perhaps, is its most worthy quality of all.
