Kurzbeschreibung

15. März 1987
Until he came to the part about "handsome of face and figure, " E.C."Scar" Gordon thought the ad was a shaggy dog aimed straight at him by someone who knew his habit of reading the personals. But tastes vary; when on a whim he answered it, the gorgeous Amazon in a lab coat who examined him seemed to think he was just fine in that department too. So what was a poor boy to do? Soon Scar Gordon, in company with the most beautiful woman he'd ever met, was off on that " Glory Road ."

Über den Autor

Robert Anson Heinlein was born in Missouri in 1907, and was raised there. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1929, but was forced by illness to retire from the Navy in 1934. He settled in California and over the next five years held a variety of jobs while doing post-graduate work in mathematics and physics at the University of California. In 1939 he sold his first science fiction story to Astounding magazine and soon devoted himself to the genre.

He was a four-time winner of the Hugo Award for his novels Stranger in a Strange Land (1961), Starship Troopers (1959), Double Star (1956), and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (1966). His Future History series, incorporating both short stories and novels, was first mapped out in 1941. The series charts the social, political, and technological changes shaping human society from the present through several centuries into the future.

Robert A. Heinlein's books were among the first works of science fiction to reach bestseller status in both hardcover and paperback. he continued to work into his eighties, and his work never ceased to amaze, to entertain, and to generate controversy. By the time hed died, in 1988, it was evident that he was one of the formative talents of science fiction: a writer whose unique vision, unflagging energy, and persistence, over the course of five decades, made a great impact on the American mind.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Unusual Heinlein - Heinlein goes Fantasy 15. Juni 1998
Format:Taschenbuch
This strange ( but not bad ) book seems to be Heinleins take on Sword & Sorcery ( It is NOT Science Fiction ! ) as his hero ( the usual lovable Heinlein kind, always with a smart and amusing remark on his tongue ) follows a beautiful women on a quest into a wondrous multidimensional (fantasy-) universe. Heinlein succeeds in playing this genre, rather to my surprise, as evidenced in some scenes that seem almost like he lifted them from Tokien - they have the same kind of fairy-tale magic.

Well worth a read, if not among his greatest. But Heinlein shows that his scope goes far beyond his classic hard SF.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent, excellent book 1. Januar 1998

Format:Taschenbuch
Heinlein has written some great books, and this one is no exception. I just read it for the first time, and I will have to read it again in a couple months, as I am sure there is much more to pick up the second time.
The book starts out as an excellently written narrative, funny and interesting. Then all of a sudden the Hero is pulled into an intense adventure with great swashbuckling. At first look, the book seems to have changed from a serious monologue to a whimsical fairy tale, but as you read on, Heinlein fantastically introduces levels and levels of depth while weaving a beautiful story. At the end it will leave you shattered, reevaluating life.
_Glory Road_ is an excellent book. Read it. You'll be glad you did.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Great until the last, then just okay 15. Februar 2000
Format:Taschenbuch
The first two thirds of this book is an odd and gripping tale that always leaves you wondering what in the heck is really going on. The answers do come slowly, and by the time the questions are all answered and the great adventure is over, the book really slows down. At first I was a little upset to realize that I was reading pretty much a pure fantasy novel, rather than science fiction as I believed it to be. Before long though I didn't care, as the story twisted through bizarre lands and amazing adventures. I think the book could have come to a close though before it did. I was not a fraction as interested in the last third of the book, which dealt mostly with society and relationships on a different world. Even though it caused me to consider many customs in the U.S. and realize their ridiculousness, it stopped being adventure, and bordered on soap opera. Still a better book than most though.

Wer sich mit Heinleins Büchern schon auskennt, wird von dem hier nicht besonders begeistert sein. Die Ideen sind bekannt, die Handlung vorhersehbar.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An unusual adventure / heroic fantasy novel
E. C. Gordon is a typical American beatnic of the early 60s. What he wants out of life is fun, sex, enough money to live a comfortable life, and - above all else - not to be... Lesen Sie weiter...

The first two thirds of this book is a rollicking adventure story. It is well written and a lot of fun.

However, Heinlein is extremely heavy-handed with the sex. Lesen Sie weiter...
