Broght together by the mysterious Miranda Zero and coordinated by young genius Aleph, they face suicide cults, ghosts, terrorists, aliens, government plans gone wrong, dangerous cold war sleeping threats.
Warren Ellis took a relatively simple idea (but so was Columbus' legendary egg, after all) and stretches it over 12 self-contained issues, drawn by 12 different artists, detailing 12 different Global Frequency adventures - the first 6 of which are collected here for your reading pleasure.
No wonder this has twice been optoned as a TV series and you should do yourself a favor and hunt down the beautiful leaked pilot of the first, while you're at it.
The stories are mostly fast paced and sometimes really skinned down to the action, but overall you have little atom bombs of information that takes along time to properly sink and digest and thoroughly enjoy. There's really so much here for you to drool over and ponder!
For comic freaks, there is also the unparelleled joy of having some very rare and very beautiful Glenn Fabry pen-and-ink work, Steve Dillon's very clean art and unmatched storytelling in service of Ellis' very tight scripts, Miracleman's Garry Leach turning in some fantastic pages, The Wicked's incredibly underrated artist Roy Martinez back to work for US comics, Jon J Muth's ink work (as beatiful and crafty as the painted workhe's most famous for), and V For Vendetta's David Lloyd proving he can do some mean action sequences too.
This is an absolutely great pacakge, ot to be missed!

Das Trade von Ellis mit pro Episode unterschiedlichem Zeichner ähnelt der Authority wie auch Planetary.
Eine junge Dame steuert, ganz wie der Weatherman oder auch Oracle ihre Truppen zu herausragenden Vorfällen, wie z.b. amoklaufenden Cyborgs, Alienseuchen oder Geiselnahmen von Nerds. Dabei kann sie auf 1001 Spezialisten aus aller Welt zugreifen, mit denen sie über spezielle Handys verbunden ist.
Diese sind nicht grundsätzlich Metas, sondern können auch Wissenschaftler, Söldner etc. sein.
Trotz einiger Schockmomente ist die Serie für Ellis' Niveau etwas zahm. Dem einem mag's gefallen, ich persönlich könnte ne Portion mehr Sickness gebrauchen.
Trotzdem läßt sich die Serie flüssig lesen, und jedes Einzelheft wäre einzeln lesbar, wohltuend in der Zeit der Megaevents. Ob die wechselnden Zeichner ankommen, muß jeder selber entscheiden.

"Global Frequency" is a sci-fi/action series about the exploits of a worldwide anti-terrorist organization of the same name. The organization has got exactly 1000 members who live all over the world. In the case of emergency the Global Frequency chief, Miranda Zero, calls the nearest agent and sets him or her on the case. There are six stories in every TPB, six different Global Frequency cases.
I regret to have to say that Warren Ellis, the acclaimed creator of the masterpiece "Transmetropolitan", has created a truly bad book. "Global Frequency" wastes a couple of interesting sci-fi notions and some fine art on totally cliched, primitive, unfunny and irrelevant scripts with virtually no human drama or even characterization. The plots of GF stories are not new. They aren't even ineresting. The protagonists seem more like robotic puppets than like real persons. Many a computer game character has got much more personality and spark than the Global Frequency heroes and villains, whose unmotivated heroism and villainy are simply improbable. One has got a distinct feeling that one has seen it all many times before, and very much better done. All in all, this graphic novel is a crude succession of hacked-out, empty, unpleasant scripts which let the artists' work go to waste. It is also very gory, and, while I cherish graphic violence where it is appropriate, in "Global Frequency" it seems only gratitious.
