Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Jonathan M. Hethey

Jonathan M. Hethey has been writing code since the age of 14 and has actively participated in shaping and experimenting with the IT systems around him. After finishing his finals and an apprenticeship as an IT supporter, he studied Multimedia Design in Kolding, Denmark, followed by studies of Web Development in Odense, Denmark.

Besides his studies, he has been working on several web projects—both on a freelance basis and in his company which was founded in 2011.

Because programming and working in teams efficiently are keys to success in a rapidly changing industry, whether we are speaking of app development or creating beautiful web experiences, he quickly became a fan of Git, and started looking for great implementations of it on the server-side that would allow newcomers to pick it up quicker and extend it with additional functionality and usability.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Outdated installation guide 16. Dezember 2013
Von Tanskanen Tuomo - Veröffentlicht auf
I had high hopes for this book. I had been administering our company's GitLab for few months and was looking for a deeper dive into the software. I was unfortunately badly disappointed as the book proved to be an outdated (written with 5.2 with glimpses of 6.0) installation guide, and failing to be even a comprehensive one. It has short introduction to other features of Git and how they're utilized in GitLab, like merge requests and wikis, but the current documentation at the GitLab's site is more up-to-date and more comprehensive than it is in this book.

If you are a complete newbie, this book will help you understand the principles of the GitLab installation. But you better use the up to date instructions for actually doing the install.
3.0 von 5 Sternen An interesting book for beginners 20. Januar 2014

I was trying to learn more on Gitlab after having installed it on one of my company server and was more than happy to find a book supposed to help me understand better how to use this fantastic tool. But I was a little disappointed by 2 points:
- Like a previous comment said, the book release is already outdated because of the Gitlab release schedule and the author seemed to be aware of it while writing it.
- Even if it's outdated it's still useful for beginners and people who never installed Gitlab in helping them managing differences between gitlab and github.

This book should be advised only to beginners who liked a complementary help in addition to gitlab wiki.
