Ann Pearlman's first book was a memoir, Infidelity, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. This is her first work of fiction and has already been optioned for film. Ann lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where The Cookie Club is set.
After having read the Christmas Cookie Club (not only have I enjoyed the book but I have also baked all the cookies whose recipes were described in it: yummy and easy to bake) I've bought "A Gift for my Sister": the sequel to The Christmas Cookie Club. I won't mention its content as it has already been described by Amazon, but I'd really like to say that: While reading, I could feel the mother, the wife, the writer, the artist, the psychotherapist enclosed in Ms A. Pearlman ...I loved it!
I could deeply feel what the characters were going through... I had roller-coaster feelings and they have accompanied me during the whole book.
Wish my life was made of sunshine only...In this book I recognised some old issues shut in my "drawer of the past" and reading it was helpful to me.

Tragic Yet Beautiful18. März 2012

This was a beautiful yet heartrenching book that is life affirming. It takes a lot for me to use the word heartrenching as I rarely cry in books but this one had tears streaming down my face. For fans of The Cookie Club, like me, it's a spin off from the series which allows the reader to enter the cookie world again. The story of two sisters, Tara and Sky, is told from both their points of view. I really felt that it allowed me to emphasise with both sisters so that in the end I didn't have a favourite character. Instead I appreciated their differences and the profound effect the past had on their lives in shaping who they were as adults. As much I I enjoyed this book I only gave it 4 stars as I felt that the pace slowed down in the middle of the book. Not a lot seemed to happen at that stage but it picked up again. So if you're after a well written, solid book this is one to try. Just don't read it if you're feeling emotional lol
