5.0 von 5 Sternen How To Become A Working Writer - It Is All Here 12. März 2014
Von Jen Grisanti - Veröffentlicht auf
Getting It Write: A Screenwriting Career by Lee Zahavi Jessup, a beloved industry pro, is a treasure chest full of valuable information and resources for writers. It covers every part of the question: “How Do You Become a Working Writer?” This is a tool that you want in your arsenal. In it, you will find everything you need to know about how to become a working writer. Some of what I loved includes: how long it should take to garner attention if your material is good, how to behave to get the results you want, info on option agreements, what to do follow-up wise after a pitch festival, best websites for competitions and coverage, recommended consultants in specialized areas... and so much more. Lee shares her own success stories of writers she’s worked with and gives the writer an insiders look of what it takes to make the sale. There is no stone left unturned. It's all here.

Jen Grisanti, Story/Career Consultant, Writing Instructor for Writers on the Verge at NBC, author of CHANGE YOUR STORY, CHANGE YOUR LIFE and STORY LINE

5.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderful 13. März 2014
Von Dave Watson, Editor, Movies Matter - Veröffentlicht auf
This book shows you how to be successful in what must be one of the hardest trades there is. Even more, Lee Jessup gives you levels of management, representation, and probably most of all, ways to plan a successful career. She gives focus to what is a wide open field that is tangible and real. I especially liked her tips of professionalism while solidifying one's voice and finding one's place, but even more so, building a career that is your own. This work is timeless.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Reel facts about writing a screenplay 25. März 2014
Von Diana S - Veröffentlicht auf
So many people have stories running around in their head that they are sure would make good movies. That journey from brain to screen, however, is a long journey that requires a lot of work and patience. Writing a screenplay is the jumping off point after days of plotting and planning, but a long way to making a sale.

No longer does the process include shipping one’s 120 pages of precious work in candy box to an agent. Lee Zahavi Jessup learned as she grew up on movie sets starting at age 11 that antics such as this are long gone. She’s now a career coach eager to guide wannabe screenwriters on their way to success. Her credits in film include film production, post production, film development and working with several related film-seeking companies.

In this book Jessup answers many questions writers want to know such as: Do I have to live in Los Angles?; Am I too old?; Do I have to do everything?

“Defining the Writer” is one of the key chapters that is a must read before attempting to begin a screenplay. Here she defines the differences between film and TV writers, those with only one story to tell, writers on assignment and more. All is very insightful information.

Jessup is also savvy enough to mention what time of the year to submit work, comments on release and legal forms, who to approach and advice on how to sustain a career.

With current up to date information "Getting It Write" will serve anyone writing a screenplay whether a newbie or seasoned writer looking for success. The book also includes good references to other books about screenwriting published by Michael Wiese Productions.

This book is a must-read for screenwriters of every level. Even if you are just starting out, it helps to know what kind of market you are writing for and what it really takes to get attention for your work. If you have written a couple of scripts and have a real handle on your craft, this book will give you the tools to map out the next steps for getting representation and steady work as a writer. You'll find out what events, contests and services are worth your money and which aren't, the etiquette of the business that people just don't tell you, and numerous ways to market yourself from inside, and outside, of LA.. Finally, a book that goes beyond the old "send out query letters" advice - written by someone who has worked in the business for years.

You definitely do NOT want to read Lee Jessup's book if you're looking for evidence that becoming a screenwriter is impossible, or is a wish granted only to those with luck and connections. With her clear, no-nonsense approach and her always encouraging style, Lee provides you with extensive lists of resources, insightful revelations about what today's Hollywood looks for and expects in a screenwriter, and most of all a simple, proven method for achieving the success you long for.
