When the book arrived,I thought Amazon had forgotten to place it in the shipping envelop. It is really short, only 40 something pages. Fortunately it gets you hitting the ground running with building a database application with CRUD capability. Unfortunately the editing left much to be desired in that there were lots of typos and sentences that didn't always make sense. In addition some of the Roo shell commands were not always correct. It speaks volumes that the shell easily corrected these issues by showing the correct options.
One thing bothered me was that they show how to create the entities for a graph database, Neo4j,but leave it at that and don't show how to actually make the database work. Instead they jump back to the Hibernate/JPA example they started developing early in the book.
I normally buy O'Reilly books without hesitation, the quality is almost always first rate. This time it looks like things didn't quite come together. I found the book useful for cramming about Spring Roo, but it leaves one thirsting for more in depth content. If the author's intent was a quick overview, then they succeeded in covering a whole lot of ground in short order. I hope a more comprehensive treatment of this subject will be forthcoming.
