Review from The Romance Reviews:

"Cathy Quinn starts off the story with a bang and then some. From the first sentence, we are hurtled straight into the story, and the excitement never lets up..... I blazed through the pages..."

Romantic comedy. When his childhood friend Alice barges into his bedroom in the middle of the night, in tears over men in general, Gabriel isn't sure what to think. When she confides in him her plan to "multidate" -- to date as many men as womanly possible, in an effort to find that one gold nugget, he is determined to save Alice from herself. But through self-defense classes, stun-gun adventures and several disastrous dates, the two just might be falling in love...

“Men are scum!”

The vicious snarl turned a pleasant dream into something he thought might be a nightmare, but the accompanying slam of his bedroom door shot through his slumber and jerked him awake. He bolted upright, peering through the darkness at the intruder.

Maybe it was one of those dreams where you thought you were awake, until something too terrible even for reality in the modern-day world happened?

He braced himself for the worst.

Then the light flipped on and he squeezed his eyes shut against the sudden brilliance. He really should get a shade for that bulb one of those days. It might help his love life too. He had a feeling many women might have something against a 90-watt light bulb hanging directly over a bed.

He pried his eyes open again, one after the other, and located the bad dream, pacing back and forth, not even looking at him.

Alice. Of course, Alice. His usual nightmare. Who else?

Schade.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Cute, Fun, Aggressive Heroine Gets Her Man! 18. Dezember 2011

After the worst date ever, Alice goes home, gets slightly drunk on half a beer, and decides she needs to talk to someone. Fortunately for her, she has a key to her older brother's best friend's house. Gabriel is awakened in the middle of the night with his best friend's kid sister ranting about how men are scum. When she comes up with a plan to multi-date (dating 1 guy for each letter of the alphabet), Gabriel decides she needs some self-defense training. The more time they spend together, the more Alice is convinced she wants her dating alphabet to end with G for Gabriel. Convincing Gabriel's going to take a lot of time and careful planning. Luckily for us, Alice is up to the challenge....

This was a quick read. (I read it in one sitting.) It's very fast-paced and lots of fun! Gabriel and Alice have grown up together, and she worries he still sees a 5-year old girl when he looks at her. As well as she knows him, he's hiding some secrets of his own, and she has to figure out these mysteries before she can convince him they're perfect together. Add in Gabriel tagging along on one of her blind dates, Alice becoming his "volunteer" at a self-defense class to protect him from a room-full of eager college girls, a run-down house in need of repairs, and a protective older brother, and you have a fun and exciting contemporary romance. Although it would benefit from the character development and details a longer novel usually provide, what's here is light and enjoyable. A fun read!

I really liked Alice's character and enjoyed this story as she tries to seduce Gabriel when she really doesn't have to. He is already hers, she just doesn't realize it, and neither does he.

Gabriel is Alice's older brother's best friend and she has known him since she was 5. She cannot get him to see her as anything other than a piggy-tailed child, until she decides to aggressively pursues him. Gabriel has some hidden demon that prevents him from allowing himself to commit to females or to give into his feelings for Alice. Mostly he doesn't want to hurt her, but it is not just emotionally that he is thinking about. When he and Alice start spending too much time together and he becomes overly protective of her, he realizes he has to put a stop to their interaction - only Alice refuses to stop seducing him and he is starting to falter.

This story made me grin with sympathy and embarrassment as Alice's good intentions of winning Gabriel were gently rebuffed by him. She knows he likes her, but is starting to think she will never break through to him. There is a lot of silly talk about the behavior of a 21st century woman and characters almost spitting out whatever is in their mouths in reaction to surprises which could use some revisions. Also, the dating is dragged on a little too long once we know Gabriel is "the one". It becomes tedious to drag through to the predictable ending. I would recommend this, though, as a simple diversion.

After reading the synopsis, this really did look like a good read. Then I started to read it. From the very get go, Alice comes off as an immature, whiney, brat. Yes we've all got dreams of finding true love but here's was almost an obsession. (Remember that would for later). Gabriel was just as bad when his character came off as heartless, rude, and condescending. Then again I guess that was the only way to tolerate Alice.

The story itself was all over the place but the one detail that stood out was Alice was practically stalking Gabriel. The girl just couldn't take a hint. Over and over and over and over he tried pushing her away. Even if he didn't want to, he still did it. But she refused to budge. Yes, persistence can be beneficial if it's done correctly but Alice was almost in need of psychiatric help. Then after, basically, forcing him to have sex with her (which was obsolete in the book) she would settle for friends with benefits even though she's in love with him? Wtf?

I'm not really sure what the author was thinking when she wrote the book but it could've used a bit more thought. Sorry Miss Quinn.

3.0 von 5 Sternen I really wanted to like this better 11. März 2012

I only got this book because it was free. First let me say I really loved both characters Gabriel and Alice which is why I kept reading it. They both were very well written, especially Gabriel. The storyline where Alice was trying to multi-date, than she was trying to chase or seduce Gabriel wasn't that interesting and got boring fast. I really wanted to love this book, it has potential but it just didn't feel real with their attraction. The beginning with them as friends and Alice dating and Gabriel giving self-defence was great & funny. When Alice starting trying to seduce Gabriel she became very annoying and I started getting mad at her for keep throwing herself at him when he kept saying no. Even Alice said in a later chapter she can only take rejection so much in her life. The very ending was very good and romantic. All in all I would recommend reading if you enjoy a very light romance between friend thats not more than a G rating in the passion department and it stays free.

even for a lightweight story, this lacked depth. I didn't feel the love between them, just physical attraction. I was also disconcerted with how casually the subject of abuse was dealt with. If you want a fun breezy romance, there are other reads better than this one.
