2.0 von 5 Sternen NOT For Learning 27. November 2014
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
It is sad, but this book does not even include charts. You have to read and imagine how the projects are done, not to mention the basic stitches are explained by words. There is one single section explains special stitch with pictures but it assumes you already know/did Tunisian Crochet.
This book is NOT for learning = Tunisian crocheters beginners! "Learning How" to me would mean: (1) learn the abbreviation of the stitches, since every art has its own terminology, (2) learn the symbolic abbreviation of these stitches, and (3) charts. These are the basics to start your journey with new crocheting method. All are not given here.
I do other crocheting since 20 years, and still find this book as a joke in terms of learning new crocheting method!
Two stars though, for the ideas of the projects!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Old stitch made new 25. Mai 2011
Von Barbara Rhoades - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I have done Tunisian Crochet since I was in my teens. We didn't call it that but called it Afghan Stitch. It curled up and was hard to get the beginning edge to cooperate with what you were making.

No longer! Today we have learned that by using two different hook sizes---one on the base row and the other to create the project, this roll will be mastered if not eliminated. Also, there are patterns for more than just afghans. This book provides ones for place mats and matching coasters, purses, shawls, cardigans and even pillows.

The author also shows more than just the "afghan stitch" I learned as a teen. This stitch is now called Tunisian Simple Stitch and goes under the "bar". There is also Tunisian Knit Stitch and Tunisian Purl Stitch. By using a combination of these three stitches, Ms. Thies creates 13 lovely designs.

There are also sections on the history of this stitch, the hook itself and the best part --- a tutorial on how to do each stitch. The graphs are GREAT and very helpful. Charts for yarn weight, skill levels and crochet hook size are provided at the end of the book. And just in case all of this isn't enough, the covers are folded over to create a "bookmark".

I plan on making several pillows and place mats/coasters for Christmas. What will you make?

5.0 von 5 Sternen I'm hooked on "get hooked on Tunisian Crochet" 9. April 2011
Von Eleanor M. Schatz - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
"get hooked on Tunisian Crochet" is a gem of a book. Sheryl Thies is a master knitter, and now is known - among Wisconsinites at least and I'm thinking far beyond - as "the guru of Tunisian crochet." I highly recommend the technique, and I highly recommend Sheryl's book. Reading her tutorial on how to get started is almost as good as having her at your side. And the projects are delightful. I've made a number of gorgeous afghans using the simple stitch and my knitting stash. But with this book, I've ventured into new territory. I've made and given the `gourmet popcorn' pillow, pp. 23-25, to a friend who raved about the gift. I've also made the `reversible kickshaw' place mats for my own table- NICE. At the top of my to-do-project list is the `MOTIVATED heretic' shawl. Tunisian crochet is so easy and so much fun it becomes addictive. Sometimes I need to remind myself to pick up my knitting needles. But, this book feeds my desire to stay hooked - with new projects as well as a return to favorites like the popcorn pillow design!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent book for teaching you Tunisian Crochet 20. April 2011
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Sheryl Thies has done an excellent job with her pattern book on Tunisian crochet. There are several pages of instructions prior to the patterns and they are well written and the artwork is excellent. So far this is my favorite Tunisian crochet pattern book. I usually hesitate to buy full books of patterns because when they arrive there is only one of two patterns I would actually make. Not so with this book. I plan to make at least 8 of these patterns and am currently working on the Tranquil cardigan. The instructions are clear and concise. If you have been wanting to learn Tunisian and immediately be able to make beautiful home accessories, garments or a lovely bag, then this is the pattern book for you.

5.0 von 5 Sternen How I learned to love Tunisian crochet 29. August 2011
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I have many great things to say about this book. One of the best qualities is that it makes Tunisian Crochet FUN. The projects that I have made so far are fun, fast, and oh so fulfilling. The Motivated Heretic shawl appears challenging but once you get started it is simple to make. I used a long color change yarn, appropriately named "Amazing", and I could hardly put the project down. It was exciting to watch the colors flow and see so many beautiful combinations appear. I love this pattern so much that it inspired me to make a scarf using a down-sized repeat. This book is an introduction to Tunisian crochet that is straightforward and does not overwhelm you by including all of the possible details on the topic. It includes many wonderful patterns that give you finished products which look complex yet are actually simple to make by following the directions.

Did you catch my comment about these projects being fast? The very first piece I created quickly grew right before my eyes. My newfound ability with this technique surpasses my pace and productivity on a knitting project. I watched these Tunisian Crochet projects come into being more quickly than I ever thought I could complete something. Patterns go fast enough that I am actually finishing pieces before I get caught up in something new. Before this book redefined crocheting for me I limited myself to knitting because I didn't like the stiff fabric created using typical crochet. Now I am doing more Tunisian crochet than knitting because I am enjoying the drape and texture created by this craft.

I am looking forward to starting my own Mystifying Embrace (the wrap shown on the cover). Starting with three hand-dyed yarns of various colors, I am eager to see how they will work together in this pattern. Earlier, I was experimenting with using three yarns that all have changing colorways to determine how they would look together with a basic stitch. All I can say is "Wow". It is a terrific effect that is unique to Tunisian Crochet and I do not think it can be reproduced with any other technique.

I will be waiting for another book by Cheryl on Tunisian Crochet when I have wrapped up the projects in this book, so that I can keep exploring this fascinating way of working with yarn.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Great Addition to My Fiber Library 21. April 2011
Von Bonnie Brody - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Get Hooked on Tunisian Crochet: Learn How with 13 Projects by Sheryl Thies contains some beautiful patterns to crochet. There are nice sections on Intersection of Technique and Fiber, A Brief History, Getting Hooked, Tutorial, and Projects. These all contain nice and clear illustrations.

The projects are lovely. My favorites are the Reversible Kickshaw placemats. They look woven and are in a lovely variegated color of blue and yellow. The Softspots Pillow is so pretty that I just can't wait to crochet it. It is a soft purple and blue and the front and back are different and complementary. The Button Down Pillow would look good on any couch or chair and be comfortable as well. It is shown in a golden hue. The Go Green Bag is a perfect size for large items such as crochet projects, books, or groceries. It has a lovely pattern and is crocheted in a beautiful light green. The Motivated Heretic is an entrelac shawl or primary beautiful colors. It has a small collar and is a large size overall - just right to keep you warm while you look spectacular. Sangria's Surprise is a dazzling shawl in the color of Sangria.

There are some very beautiful projects in this book, ones I am anxious to make. I also like the instruction section as it is very clear. This is a great addition to my fiber library.
