"The authors are generally well known, with Hoskins providing ten of the chapters across a broad range of medical topics. Strong emphasis is placed on using the information from the beginning of the consultation rather than trying to be solely a reference text once the diagnosis has been made. It is therefore most useful pre-emptively, in other words, as an educational tool. The main strength of this text will be realized when it is read cover to cover as a prologue to setting up or improving a senior pet examination program. Clearly, many general practices already have ongoing or occasional programs for seniors. These practices may benefit from formalizing the program by using a text such as this to serve as a guide.
