The first two LP's by Der Plan are true examples of what made NDW so New, so Deutsch and so Welle. Records like Geri Reig and Normalette Surprise made you feel privileged to be part of the secrets of total strangeness becoming sound. Punk was not three chords and a leather jacket (ok it was also that), punk was the mentality of Do Something Else For Christ's Sake.
That reflects in Geri Reig and the more polished Normalette Surprise. The pre-occupation with childishness (also succesfully explored by Holger Hiller in Palais Schaumburg) counterpointed by alienating electronics works extremely well. Maybe Germany was just infected by alien viruses for a short time. Genius galore for a period: DAF Die Kleinen Und Die Bosen, Palais Schaumburg, Der Plan, early Neubauten.... In the mid-80s the aliens left and took their viruses with them I suppose. Schade, schade, sag ich dazu! Come on German boys and girls! Who's going to challenge Anglo-Saxon cock-rock in 2007? Die welt ist schlecht, das Leben schoen!
