    Kurzbeschreibung

Lady Grace Deringer has loved Lord Stephen Melbourne, Earl of Terraview, almost from the first moment they met. She thought he returned her feelings, but when he disappears mere weeks before their wedding she is left heart broken and disillusioned. How could she have been so wrong about something she believed was so right?

The last thing in the world Stephen ever wanted to do was leave Grace. For reasons he could not explain, he was forced to give up the woman he loved for a woman whose life he was determined to save. When he finally returns to London, it is for one reason and one reason only: to win back Grace’s heart, no matter the cost.

But can Grace love the man who left her? And can Stephen trust her with his most dangerous secret? Find out in A Gentle Grace, the fourth and final novella in the Wedded Women Quartet!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Abschluss des "Wedded Women Quartets" 7. Juli 2013
    Von Vio TOP 100 REZENSENT
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

    *sigh*

I was so looking forward to this last book of the Wedded Women Quartet that perhaps my expectations were too high. I loved the way Lord Melbourne interacted with Grace during the other books, the way he would catch her as she fell and put her back on his feet, the way he was always watching out for her. Unlike her friends, I didn't doubt his intentions for a moment.

This book starts with a brokenhearted Grace because Melbourne jilted her and disappeared. He wasn't even very nice about it. And now her family's about to go under financially and she feels it's all her fault.

Okay, I can deal with that. He must have some good reason right? Well, he comes back and unfortunately there's just not enough interaction between the two of them for me to find her forgiveness entirely plausible. The story skips back and forth between the past and the present, and the past takes up a lot more time than (in my opinion) it should have. Did I enjoy the glimpses? Yes, but they could have been shorter and there could have been more interaction in the present. Personally I think that the explanation for why he left was a little too short and glossed over. I disliked that the explanation for the reader was pushed off until finally we get Grace's friend's reactions. I want to know exactly what Melbourne said TO GRACE. Because I'm not sure that I forgave him by the end of the book. I think that Grace had some pretty good points about why she still had the right to be upset, I was a little annoyed that her friends didn't agree and basically acted like she had NO right to be upset and I thought that overall the entire storyline in the present was far too rushed.

It was like biting into a chocolate that I thought would have caramel and finding out that it's almond nougat instead. It's still good... just not as good and it's not really what I wanted or hoped for.

Okay, I dithered about the rating, and ended up going with the two stars instead of three, but again, after reading this novella, I was left with a vague sense of disappointment rather than the deep sigh of satisfaction.

I know we like our characters to be flawed, but I have read more than one book in recent months where the heroine is so clumsy, they really shouldn't be allowed to get out of bed (or their chair). This one was constantly being caught mid-flight towards a face-first landing on the floor by whoever happened to be in the room with her. And she didn't seem to need much by way of a hazard to send her full tilt towards the floor, either.

It failed to be endearing, and actually made me feel quite impatient with her - which was a vast pity, because there were some good things about the story, but every time I was starting to feel better about the story... there she went - flying face first towards the floor again - and the feeling-good moment was shattered again.

Another thing that seriously jarred with me was the engagement that had spanned a few years. Excuse me? Didn't the author remember the mother she gave this girl? That woman would have marched him up the aisle at gunpoint before the ink was dry on the marriage settlement agreement!

And then there's Grace again - Grace who seems to do nothing else in life except flit from one friend's house to another's - never doing anything for anyone else or in any way contributing to the lives of those around her. She just does nothing. Though I suppose if you fling yourself face first at the floor every time you stand up, you probably should sit around doing nothing.

The girlfriends - okay, so after this very long engagement, this very wealthy, titled suitor breaks off the engagement and disappears, apparently without reason. The author could have handled this better - for both the reader and her heroine. Nonetheless, when Stephen (the hero) does return, the heroine's friends close ranks around Grace - and conveniently forget that that man stoody by her, was always there to catch her when she fell (literally), and hung around for three or more years with that diabolical woman who was destined to be his mother-in-law, and none of these good friends gave him any credit for that.

Josephine finally fave him the benefit of the doubt (first time I actually liked her).

There were too many loose ends left dangling when the story ended - and not in the 'there's going to be a sequel' way either.

After reading the book, I really did not like the heroine being named Grace.

    4.0 von 5 Sternen A Gentle Grace~ 25. März 2013

Lady Grace Deringer thought her life complete with her engagement to her dream husband, Lord Stephen Melbourne, Earl of Terraview as she has loved him from the first moment they met. He seemed to see past her clumsiness and lack of beauty and see her for her true self but then he suddenly calls off the engagement and she is heartbroken as Stephen heads out of England. Now months later, he has returned and is determined to win back Grace and tell her the truth of his leaving. But will Grace be able to forgive Stephen and open her heart to him again?

A Gentle Grace brings us to the conclusion of the delightful Wedded Women Quartet and each one as been a winner for me. I loved seeing what happens after the 'happily-ever-after', how love needs to be rekindled sometimes to find that true, everlasting love. Grace and Stephen's love story was no different. A family secret came to light and Stephen thought his course of action was the best thing to protect Grace, even though it hurt her the most. I do wish the secret had been revealed a bit sooner, but I am always impatient for details like that. I enjoyed how Grace, with some coaxing from her friends, took matters into her own hands and it turns the tables on Stephen a bit which was a treat. Stephen is warm and caring and I was glad to see him in this light as I was not too sure about him in the previous novellas and I adored how Stephen and Grace met and fell in love. Another wonderful tale of redeeming love and the true strength of friendship. All four of these women know that family runs so much deeper than blood and together they can help you through heartbreak and triumph. I look forward to going back and reading each of these novellas back to back and loving their stories again. Recommended for fans of second chance romances with a dash of heat and a lot of friendship. 4 stars

I liked Grace's personality and was pleased with her part in the Wedded Women Quartet. The fact that she was a bit of a klutz was endearing and how the rest of quartet was always on ready to help prevent most of her spills. Like the whole series.

I have enjoyed all four of Jillian Eaton's Wedded Women stories. This last one, however, was just a tiny bit flat. I really was hard pressed to understand why Stephen wasn't honest upfront with Grace about his need to go and rescue another woman. Grace was probably the most forgiving and understanding of the four women. Ah well, it was simply a minor glitch to me. Overall, I enjoyed the series greatly.
