A chance encounter, a chance at love…and one heartbreaking choice.

A Conduct Unbecoming Sequel

Ensign Aiden Lange is taking a hike—and it’s not for the pleasure of seeing Okinawa’s Hiji Falls. It’s in the hope that claiming he took a fall on the rocks will cover up the fact he was beaten up in a gay bar. Not a place a Naval Academy grad wants to get caught if he’s serious about his career.

At the end of the trail, a surprise comes with the scenery. A gorgeous young guy in swim trunks.

Connor didn’t come up to the falls to find a man, but he’s instantly intrigued by the ensign with the bandaged eyebrow. A hike turns into dinner, and before he knows it, he’s up to his heart in love with the gentle, infinitely patient Aiden.

It’s a small world, though, and an even smaller island. It’s only a matter of time before they’re caught by a man who’s more than just Connor’s overprotective father. He’s also Aiden’s high-ranking boss. Someone with the power to force Aiden to choose—Connor, or his naval career.

Warning: Contains two adorable guys who don’t give a damn that the deck’s stacked against them, plenty of sex on the beach, and the hottest application of sunscreen you’ve ever read.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Incredibly romantic and sweet and it left me with that 'aaah' feeling. And, the epilogue was the icing on the cake. 22. Juli 2014

This happened to be one LA Witt tale that I'd not pre-ordered, as I didn't know if a tale set on a military base in Japan would be my kind of thing, but I'm incredibly pleased to have been offered an ARC by Samhain, in return for an honest review. This ended up being one of the most loving, most romantic LA Witt tales that I've read, and a 5* Keeper, one that I'd have happily bought.

Though the blurb skims the tale, it doesn't go into the depth of emotions, and it doesn't give an idea of how decent, how genuine, how non-blasé, how Joe Next Door both leads are, and how tender and loving the tale is. There's an obvious bit of angst with Connor's dad being Aiden's boss, and there was a bit when I wondered if the leads could make it, but love, simple, ordinary, FELT love got them there, and from only around a third into it, despite Connor's tender age and inexperience, I knew that the leads would make it. The epilogue, two years down the line, was perfect in every way. I can't fault this tale in any way.

This is a sequel but it's not critical to read the first book. I related more to the first book because the guys were in their mid- to late-30s. The guys in this book are young: 20 and about 24. So while I didn't relate as much you might I will say while this author is a very good writer there was not much to this book except the two guys and their relationship. That was about it. And quite a bit of sex. So if you like that then you will like the book.

What a solid, sweet romance this story was! Just as much so as the first installment, Conduct Unbecoming, which was Shane and Eric’s story. They make appearances here, but this book is about Aidan and Conner.

Aidan is Ensign Lange, low man on the totem pole and new to the base. He meets Conner while out hiking one of the island’s many trails, and they really hit it off. There is immediate attraction, but they start out just really enjoying each other’s company. Not long after they take things a bit further, it is revealed that Conner is the son of Aidan’s superior.

Going against the Major’s threats to each of them, they continue meeting up to enjoy each other and see where things go. This was my favorite part of the story. Conner is a virgin, has never dated or had any relationships. So, they take things very slowly, just allowing themselves to explore each other at a comfortable pace. When they finally go all the way (not until around 60% into the story), Aidan goes above and beyond to make the experience amazing and memorable. Everything from their kisses to the full-blown sex is hot stuff.

Much of this story is about their exploration and growing love, the rest is about them trying to be discreet and fly under the Major’s radar. Both of these got a little tiny bit tiresome, but that is my only complaint with this story. The military titles and descriptions that were a little too much in the previous book were not present, and thus, not issue for me this time around.

The writing is well done and everything I’ve come to expect from Ms. Witt. I highly recommend either or both of these stories for those looking for a great romantic steamy read. Each can easily be read on their own, but they definitely go well together.

There is a lot I liked about General Misconduct by L.A. Witt starting with the fact that it ran concurrently with her previously published book Conduct Unbecoming. I love that this was a younger couple and that despite the difficulties of being together they wanted each other so much. I love that the characters from Conduct Unbecoming gave advice and support to this couple. Most of all I loved that even though these two are very young, they are very determined and aren’t afraid to face whatever it takes to be together. This book gives anyone who supports marriage equality for all hope and sometimes that’s just what the world needs.
After a fairly frightening encounter and on the advice of a military policeman on a way to explain his injuries Aiden hikes to Hiji Falls and encounters Connor another American but judging from his haircut not military. It’s a chance encounter and one that throws them both for a loop with the chemistry flowing between them but neither one is sure that the other is gay. It was fun to watch these two try and figure out if the other one was gay and questioning bringing it up and then the relief they both felt when the truth was revealed. ‘

With Aiden being around 24 and Connor being 20, these are young men and while Aiden has some experience Connor doesn’t which makes their meeting even more special. I respected the hell out of Aiden for knowing that he had to move slowly and Connor knowing it was okay to ask him to slow down when he needed it. There was such a mutual satisfaction of just being with each other that at first the physical was like the gravy on top; they really learned a lot about one another especially after they are caught by Connor’s father.

Aiden being in the military and Connor being a military dependent things were very complicated for these two yet it was so easy to see they had some very deep feelings for one another. Yes, Aiden takes some advice and makes what could have been the biggest mistake of his life but he mans up big time and faces down the one person who could truly ruin his career to make it right and I give him huge kudos for having the guts to do so.

While not quite as emotionally charged as the first book in this series, General Misconduct is a very good story of young love that is so powerful it takes your breath away and makes you believe that sometimes first love can be forever love.

'General Misconduct' is book two in L.A. Witt's series 'Conduct Unbecoming'. I really loved the first book which did an amazing job of introducing me to Okinawa and the military men who live there. Eric and Shane's story was great and I was very pleasantly surprised to see the author take the ending to a place I wasn't expecting. The author had introduced both Aiden and Connor in the previous book so I was looking forward to their story.

Aiden is a recent graduate of the academy and an ensign in the Navy. His job as the command antiterrorism officer deals with paperwork, paperwork, and more paperwork, and he regularly deals with colonels, generals, and admirals. Of course, even with the new policies within the military, Aiden isn't jumping at announcing he's gay. Shane and Eric know his secret and he knows theirs, but only because Eric was the military cop called to the base ER when Aiden got into a fight outside a gay club. Needless to say, these guys all want their secrets kept. Meeting Connor might just turn out to be the best thing that's happened to Aiden in a long time. Or, not.

Connor is a military brat. But, on this base, he's not just any military guy’s kid. Oh, no. He's the general's son. Who also happens to be Aiden's boss. Could it get any worse? Well, yes, actually, it does. The general follows Connor when he meets Aiden at his apartment and catches them together. Now, Connor is twenty, so that isn't an issue, but there are a whole lot of other problems at hand. Dear old Dad makes it very plain, as in he orders Aiden to stay away from his son, and then he tells Connor that as long as he's living under his roof as his dependent, Connor is forbidden from dating anyone on base. Since Connor is going to college using his dad's GI Bill and that price is to live at home, what is Connor to do? Even worse, the general threatens Aiden's career by letting him know that if he doesn't stay away from his son, he'll have Aiden transferred to some god-awful location and his career will end up in the toilet.

This was a really good addition to the series. It was lovely watching Aiden and Connor really get to know each other, without sex as a motive, while still trying to be discreet and hide it from the general. I was impressed at the relationship these two young men developed and was rooting for them the whole way. They ran into some snags which I expected, but overall I loved their happy ending and my glimpse at Shane and Eric's very happy ending. Good job, Lori!
