<div>Games of Thrones has quickly established itself as one of TV's most exciting shows &#150; combining political intrigue and family dysfunction against an epic fantasy backdrop. HBO's lavish adaptation of George R.R. Martin&#8217;s series of fantasy novels features a stellar cast, including Aidan Gillen, Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey, and chronicles the violent struggles between the kingdom&#8217;s noble families as they attempt to control the Iron Throne. Hailed by critics and dubbed Sopranos meets The Lord of the Rings, Games of Thrones has cast its spell over audiences thanks to its memorable characters, surprise deaths and violent action &#150; and this exhaustive guide will document the background dramas that have helped make Games of Thrones such a huge success. You&#8217;ll also find biographies of the main actors, episode guides, an overview of how it has already become part of pop culture and an in-depth look into the compelling world that George R.R. Martin created, and much, much, more.</div>

3.0 von 5 Sternen nette Lektüre für GoT Fans 27. Juni 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

3.0 von 5 Sternen "Eh" -- average only -- hastily thrown together 10. Mai 2013
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
This is only a passable book -- certainly not worth $11. Hastily thrown together -- not well written. While interesting if read cover to cover, if you need to find anything specific, you're out of luck. I looked up "Tully" -- nothing. If you *MUST* have this book, wait for the price to drop, and get it used for $4. My feeling: Eh.

Two of my favorites are:

Game of Thrones Season Two Essays Illustrated Edition

by Pearson Moore, in paper or Kindle.

3.0 von 5 Sternen TV Viewers: AVOID - SPOILERS are too easy to read 22. Februar 2013
Von bsg2004 - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
I commend the author for the effort in putting together this book. The book is divided in two parts. The first part is 186 pages long and covers in A to Z style characters, actors and other things related to the TV show.

The second part is the Episodes Guide. It is around 80 pages long and covers the 20 twenty episodes of Season 1 and Season 2. For each episode there is a synopsis, a trivia section and a Post Analysis segment. For most of the episodes (but not all), the Post Analysis mentions the number of viewers who watched the original airing on HBO. If you haven't been reading everything there is about the tv show, the chances are you will find something interesting in the Trivia or Post Analysis sections for each episode.

The book is 7.75 by 5 inches and 0.5 inch thick. Total number of pages is 266. It is not printed on quality paper but there are eight color pages in the middle of the book printed on glossy or magazine paper. The color pages are pictures of the various actors.

So far so good, except the book has one disastrous flaw for TV viewers. In the first part of the book, the A to Z segment, there are Spoiler sections together with the regular text. For example, for character A, there is the non-spoiler text, followed by a box with the word Spoilers and the spoilers right there. Because the spoilers are mixed in with the rest of the text and because the giant box automatically draws your attention towards them, it is almost impossible not to accidentally read some of the text in the spoilers section. Even randomly flipping through the book is risky because you may land squarely on a spoiler section and before you realize it, your experience will be ruined by a spoiler.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Grossly incomplete 5. Januar 2014
Von Piasta Wnuczka - Veröffentlicht auf
I was expecting an alphabetical guide to the characters, history and geography of the world of the popular TV series and the novels upon which it was based, but this waste of ink and paper did not even come close to meeting my expectations.

How can a book called "Game of Thrones A to Z" contain no entries on Brienne of Tarth, on Catelyn Stark, on Danaerys Targaryen, or on Joffrey Lannister -- to name just a few -- although there are pictures of the actresses and actor who play them (out of costume), and an entry on Emilia Clark, the actress who plays Danaerys, under "E."

Overall, that's not unusual: The author gives more information on the actors and actresses, or at least the handful of them that he for whatever reason deems worthy of mention, than he does about the characters they play. And it's the characters, not the actors, that most people who buy this book want to know about.

Characters (and the actors who play them), are alphabetized by first name rather than last (Ned Stark under "N," Jaime Lannister under "J"), which is OK except that there's no separate entry on the families, so if you are trying to look up the name of a particular ancestor or sibling, you will be hard pressed to find it here.

Petyr Baelish, for some other senseless reason, is listed under "Littlefinger," a nickname he says repeatedly that he hates, with no cross-referencing under "B," or even "P."

There are no maps, there's no genealogy, there's no entry on "Direwolves," there's no entry on "Hand of the King" describing what the job is and naming who's held it, there's no entry on "Wildlings," and so on. There's an entry on "Zombies" that says "they are not really zombies but wights ... deceased bodies brought to life by the White Walkers," but that's the extent of what he tells us about the White Walkers, who get no entry of their own.

This book would have been better with the pictures situated within the text, without the spoilers (which are annoying and will become moot after another season anyway), with entries on ALL the major characters, and --- well, I could write a book about all the problems with this one.

Bottom line: You can get more and better information from one of the online wiki sites devoted to "Game of Thrones" and save $14.95 (or whatever) -- and a tree -- in the process.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Borrow, don't buy -- poorly conceptualized and executed 9. Juli 2014
Von Eric and Jill Olsen - Veröffentlicht auf
This book is below average at best, and an aggravating read much of the time. But if you're like me, on a mission for more GoT series information but find the dedicated websites overwhelming, follow this advice: borrow this "guide" book from the library -- do NOT spend real money on it. The "guide" does provide some background on some of the characters, and I did learn a few things. But I've watched the first three HBO seasons, actually reading this "guide book" simultaneously as the fourth season aired (winter/spring 2014), therefore I do have a decent background on the series. And although the guide ostensibly covers only the first two seasons, it still out paced my series understanding: A great many of the labeled and boxed-out "spoilers" absolutely MUST include details from the original books -- there are characters' names included who simply do not appear in the TV show -- at all! (E.g., "Edric Storm" -- King Robert's bastard taken in Season 3 by Melisandre for sacrifice to The Lord of Light (book p. 38) -- when this TV character is actually named Gendry. I had to make sense of this error by using a couple of wiki sites, as I have not yet read the book series by George Martin.) And it certainly doesn't seem reasonable that HBO would have granted advanced series information for this book to Martin Howden and his team, considering the guide book published in 2012 and new seasons for this sort of series typically seem to not be written that many years in advance. (And even if they did pen the scripts for future seasons two or three years in advance, would they REALLY share it with this sort of slipshod publication in the first place?!) As mentioned, this "guide" offers a handful of interesting bits, but overall it is confusing, annoying, largely unsatisfying and often makes little sense. The readers, as well as the author AND John Blake Publishing, would all have been better served by basic and discerning editorial support, as well as appropriate developmental attention given to the actual HBO episodes. And it would have helped mitigate some of the editorial issues by including images that were actually useful or interesting (read: maps); an introduction/explanation of author choices such as included (or excluded) content and writing choices; or some manner of effort was made to address the fusion of George Martin's books' details into what is advertised as a TV series overview.

Good as far as it goes. Only covers the initial shows. could use a genealogy chart to explain how characters relate to each other.
