This is a detailed and insightful enthnographic analysis of the underworld of adolescent female prostitution. James Hodgson combines observations of street action and interviews with prostitutes and their pimps to present a candid and shocking overview of a social problem that affects the lives of so many of society's most vulnerable citizens. Hodgson's study clearly exposes the manipulative and predatory victimisation of vulnerable teenage girls - many of them runaways from dysfunctional homes - and debunks the belief that prostitution is a victimless crime. His data also expose the opportunistic, cunning, and sometimes violent strategies of the pimp and corrects a common perception that prostitutes and pimps form symbiotic relationships.

Second rate uni thesis.

This book is really a uni thesis for a sociologist who gathered data from self-reports and police recorders. The student conducts a quantitative study of prostitution and its elements. He interprets his data to better understand why young girls are attracted to prostitution and how pimps help facilitate and exploit their vulnerability. I gave it 3 stars because I felt the author could have expanded on his data to further diverge into the lifestyle of pimps and prostitutes. The author does a superb explaining the causation and factors leading young girls into prostitution, but fails to highlight any socialized aspect of "The Game". I am not a sociologist or sociology major but I do know that economic benefits alone can't explain prostitution, the glamor of the pimp lifestyle is also a reason why girls get involve in prostitution.

totally agree with the other review more like reading a police report and and investigation folder than anything was not pleased and over all it all about child prostitution and we all know there is more to the game than that
