Taschenbuch --

When disasters begin occurring around the world, a widely-dispersed group of people begin to make their way to what they hope is a safe place. A family tries to deal with the knowledge that their young daughter is having prophetic dreams of the disasters, unaware that others are beginning to have the dreams as well. As the pace of the disasters accelerates, and the end of the world looms, it becomes apparent that the dreams might be the beginning of something altogether different. A new form of communication with the world around the dreamers emerges to their astonishment and wonder, and a young girl may hold the key to the future.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Gaia Dreams 22. Juli 2013

As I started reading this book I felt a case of deja vu. It brought to mind 'The Stand' with the need of the individuals to go to a certain place and dreaming of the place and a person/persons there. Instead of an old lady in a rocking chair, there was a 6 year old girl named Samantha and they were headed to Missouri rather than Colorado. In lieu of a super flu there was planetary destruction in the form of earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, and a mega hurricane.

Difference? There are animals that can communicate with humans and other animals, and humans that can mentally connect with animals and humans as changes occur on earth.

I was impressed in the beginning by some excellent editing that began to fade as I was about 20% into the book. Not a fan of the usage of -- in lieu of commas, and in some cases there was an excessive use of commas.

Despite the 'rewrite' feel of 'The Stand' and the editing in the latter part of the book, this was a very good book. Good enough that I have just finished it and felt compelled to write a review.

All in all, a good read.

I would give the author higher marks for her writing ability, but the theme is utter nonsense. Reading the intro blurb, I did not see any of this kind of thing coming or I would not have chosen this book to read. Not my cup of tea.

Remembering that this is fiction, I realize that there are readers who like this kind of stuff - who worry and fret over the earth falling apart and insist that everything that goes wrong is the fault of humans. I am not not one of those who are into environmental 'my way or the highway' misinformation. Even in fictional form.

I am trying to slog through the book (it is somewhat rare when I give up on a book), but keep getting sidetracked by continual silliness such as the following quote...
"maybe what I really think is that we've (humans) screwed up so bad we deserve to be wiped out. And if so, maybe that wouldn't be such a terrible thing. Think how many species we have exterminated in our time here. What gave us the right to play God on this planet? Maybe the only way other species, and the Earth herself, can survive here is if we are gone." Seriously??

Or this quote...
"Well, of course, my dear, we became the bully on the block. We have run roughshod over the planet just because we could, just to prove we could." Really??

OK - so it's fiction. I have not yet finished this book, so if the theme changes and/or becomes more interesting, I will come back and revise my review. If you like this sort of thing, this book is for you.
2.0 von 5 Sternen If you could talk to the animals.. 26. Oktober 2014

So, your pets can read and communicate with you now, and that's great and all.
The Earth is angry, and has decided that humankind must be..corrected. Animals and a very few humans can hear the voice of the planet, and the planet is not a happy camper. It seems that humanity has overstepped the boundaries of what is acceptable, and the Earth is about to make some major adjustments to the quality of life for a lot of people.
That's the theme of this book, that Earth, or Gaia, is dying because of the mess humanity has made, and has started to change the playing field. I'd like to point out that the Earth will remain long after humanity is gone, regardless. Humans cannot destroy the earth. Of course, we can make it uninhabitable for humans and other life, but the earth will not be destroyed.
The book is written from the viewpoint of various humans and animals. Gaia is speaking, and many are having prophetic dreams of huge disasters, which is how they interpret the words of the planet. The disasters start with an enormous earthquake.
Those humans having the dreams and a connection to their pets begin trying to reach a place in Missouri, where there are others experiencing the prophetic dreams, and where they may be safe.

Results: interesting, not too many editing problems, and some likable characters. I found it a little difficult to become totally immersed in the story, and I stopped a couple of times to read other things. But the book was free on Amazon, so why not take a chance? 2-3 stars.

What is the world doing to its people? I found out reading this wonderful book by Pamela Davis. I recommend this book to scifi and fantasy lovers, alike. I'd say this is a character-driven adventure with a lot of surprises and beautifully, wickedly written destruction scenes.
