The two volumes of Goetz von Berlichingen are excellent books for the committed historian studying the composition and employment of SS divisions. However, it is recommended that the reader be fluent in either French or German, or both, as the English translations are very poor. For example, frequent use of "Stubaf" appears in English, which is an abbreviation for Sturnbannfueher, but nowhere can the English reader find this out. Where the translator does not know the English word, he uses the French, thereby producing very awkward sentences.
The reader must be familiar with SS ranks and their abbreviations in German, also the German words and abbreviations for German military equipment. The translator, John Lee, is apparently not familiar with the equivalent English military terms. Lastly, the photo captions are frequently mixed up and the English translationss of the captions have different meanings than the German ones. Nonetheless, the books are excellent for the serious historian of Waffen-SS units.

Details, photos, information not found anywhere else, all in a superbly constructed hardcover book that'll last for ages. Unit histories don't get much better than this. Buy it, this is one you'll not regret! In the years to come, this will be a highly sought after book.

A very good book

A very good book, at first I was sceptical about it but after I look in to it I found it amazing , good photo's very detailed reports on the status of the unit. The only down side is that the second volume is very "rare" and cost 3(approximate) time more then the first volume
